Mother !^#&ing oil drain plug..

I'm doing my 3rd ever oil change on it.. Both previous times I used a tq wrench to tighten the plugs and a rather nice set of allen sockets.. The main drain plug on the pan just stripped.. Had the hex in full depth and it still stripped.

Tried the punch and hammer trick to spin the plug.. Nothing.. Just chipped away the outer edge of the plug so bad that it had a 1/2" wide flat spot on the edge...... So I cussed a lot, threw things and eventually I drilled through it.. Let it drain and used my Ridgid no 10 screw extractor set.. Even the 1/2" one just spun..

So I grabbed about the right sized twist style ez out and welded a nut to it where the stupid ~3/8" square drive was and then pounded it in with a 5lb sledge.. After that I put a socket on a breaker bar and it came loose with a bang that sounded like a 9mm going off...

So it's out.. I wish I had just bought them in case when I picked up the washers and pollen filter today at the stealership... Now I'm going back on monday and getting two new plugs...

I think from now on I'm going brush coat threads with anti-seize... Just because you torque to spec doesn't mean the f*cker wont stick anyway...

Can't do that with the two sump V8 pan..

Also always get a better drain from the bottom of the pan.

The best solution is a different plug made out of better material. Stock seems to be some lower grade soft aluminum.

I've probably changed the oil 8 times on the Maserati with the original drain plugs.. Just put on a new copper washer.

Can anybody confirm the V6 TDI drain plug is M14 ( I think so)?

I would be paranoid that the fumoto valve would get knocked to open or break off completely.

Then I have not even seen the sump plug on mine yet, oil change next week so I will reconsider after that.
On the V10 the plug is up behind the aluminium cross member so if you knock it off you have torn your whole engine support out.

Tony the genuine plug comes with the sealing washer as part of it for about $4.50 from the dealer.

The Fumoto valve will not fit the V6 due to a cross member being in the way to screw it in.
Not sure about the V8 but I believe the same reason as the V6 cause the 24mm can be got in the valve.

sadly Nulon 507 is not for a 2004 V10,

but regardless since Supercrap aired there anti motorcycle adds I have an will never buy anything from them.
Never saw that ad but that's pretty bad form.
I have had this discussion with 4ePikanini why is the 507 oil no good for the 2004 V10? it is the same engine as the 2007 except DPF's. The 507 oil only has less ash to protect the emissions from getting clogged. The cams, rockers, lifter, pistons, crank and bearings are the same!
Not that it matters to me I don't use either as I don't think that either oil offers enough protection especially in the hot Australian climate. I use an oil with a high shear rating that has shown thru oil samples to clearly reduce iron in the oil. For those wanting the 506.01 oil it is harder to get and pretty costly.

I have bought some liqui moly 505.01, there is so much debate about oil on forums already, it makes my head spin.

I would not have given it a second thought and used any diesel oil, but a friend has an Eos and the service centre admitting using a non VW spec oil, 3 months later they were rebuilding a stuffed motor! consequently I am a bit paranoid.

I'm so dumb. I have been anticipating the first oil change on my treg. Got everything ready for the big day tomorrow and I just now realized I only ordered one drain plug from Amazon. It took like two weeks to arrive as well. Guess I better order the second one and wait another two weeks before I get the chance to change my oil.

Anyone know what size the o-ring is for the oil filter housing drain? I don't believe I've even considered that one so I may as well get it also.
