I sold my vehicle, a 2011 model year TDI, back to VW in September 2018. It had 238,500 miles / 385,000 km on it. Averaged approximately 30k miles per year, for 8 years. Vehicle was acquired in October 2010.

Fuel economy remained north of 30mpg (US gallons) until the end. The factory shock absorbers were still on the vehicle.

DEF and DPF problems were the main issues over the years. Factory brakes lasted a very long time, 150k miles if I recall. I use the brake pedal sparingly and infrequently.

Diesel fuel gelled one time. Battery replaced by me once, at 220k miles approximately. I hit a deer in 2014 head-on at 55mph, so the driver's airbag, radiator and associated front end parts were placed. Steering components were fine and factory original until the end.

In the final months, some expensive repairs were in the making, which I did not take on. Transmission shifting poorly, air conditioning modes (flap servos) not functioning reliably, and check engine light coming and going. Great vehicle and I look back fondly on the miles.

2006 v8

I have 137,xxx miles on my 2006 v8 with air suspension, winter package, navigation etc.., has had tranny replaced at 68,000miles, tpms replaced, brakes and rotors done and still going strong... I did the big 100,000 maintenance a little early
Failed tranny at only 68,000??? Yikes!!! Definitely makes me reconsider getting a used Tuareg...

My T2 just crossed the magic threshold (200k km) a few days ago. Going in soon for a front end rebuild (bushings and links, stuff like that). Otherwise no real scary mechanical issues.

It doesn't look like I will be winning any awards, but my Egg just rolled over to 218,000 miles. 2004, V8, with air suspension.

Never had any air suspension problems! knock on woodgrain

She needs catalytic converters and O2 sensors (feeling way down on power) ... and it's second timing belt service is due.

We bought it in 2013 with 72k miles, that works out at 31,500 miles per year. An estimated total of $27,720 in JUST PETROL during our ownership (calculated at an average of 15MPG, and average fuel price of $3.30 per gallon).
Hi, what milage interval did you use for timing belt replacement?

miles or kms?
My 2006 V6 Treg has 238k miles. It has an electrical problem (I believe Relay 15) but have not found anyone in the Boise ID area I would trust to hunt it down. The car got wet under the driver's seat and lived in a rainey sectio of the NW until recently. My 2014 TDI is at 115k miles, and I bought it frankly to tide me over until I could find an appropriate EV (Rivian has my attention so far).

I feel for you, I got a 2008 V8 with only 100k miles and water got in from sunroof drain on drivers side rear and flooded it out all the way up to driver (parked on slope). Took 2k USD at an Indy shop to ge it running again (dash lit up like Christmas tree and couldn’t get out of park). They cleaned the drains and I thought the problem was resolved after they got it running again…fast forward another week and it filled with water worse then ever before. I dried it out and dropped the headliner to find and fix the leak…actually doing all four sunroof drains at same time because it is a crappy design…and now I have no dash blower and the fuses all appear working so another grounding issue someplace… grrrr

When this is done I am pulling my 2007 (with 125k miles) into the garage and doing this same repair to it. Water is such I PITA in a vehicle.

If you know for a concrete fact that the leak is fixed that is great. Hidden stuff like leaks I do myself because I go above and beyond what I feel a Indy or dealer would do…like doing my other three drains at same time. I am in there I might as well.

Yikes. I understand, it is going to be an expensive problem as I haven't time to chase it myself. Sounds like the same symptoms - the MFD had everything lit and the shifter stuck. I am not at all certain where the water came from. The car is now located in a desert environment (rather than a rainforest where the problem arose) so maybe after the wiring is fixed it won't again be a big problem, but probably should also look at the moonroof drains or whatever might have ended up under the driver seat. Thanks for your note.

Also, I fat fingered the year of that Treg, it is a 2008 V6. Drive too much, but what a great car. My best snow and ice driver ever.

Now I know why a Youtuber (BMW restorer) that I follow absolutely hates sunroofs. I lost a parking sensor module due to a leak in a water drain tube, and it's never been right since. Still trying to find a good used one. Apparently these have to be programmed at the dealer upon installation so you can't just plug-and-play.
I miss my T1. No sunroof. No water issues.

I don't yet have enough experience with my 2014 V6 TDI R-Line, but it is around 148k miles now, and I have not had reliability issues yet. Sometimes there are strange codes generated - for instance a powertrain one (very non-specific) that popped up while driving on the freeway at a little over the 65 mph speed limit, but I had it cleared and it has not returned in the ensuing three weeks or so. I can't escape the feeling the car is so complex, something big will go wrong. I frankly love the car but only bought it (used) to get me through waiting for the promise of maybe a Rivian RT1 coming into my life within 3 years, when I may garage my TDI except for certian driving times or sell it..

I've reserved a Grenadier.

6 cylinder BMW engine, gas or diesel.

But I like to think the Rivian will come to the UK as RHD.

I never heard of the Grenadier so I thought I'd pop over to their website and see what it looks like and my first impression was "hey that's the old Land Rover Defender", or a slightly updated facsimile of it. Isn't it? Anyone else think so?
