Yes, thanks for bringing it up again Tony.
It looks like we won't be able to join in this year due to 'that' 4 letter word.... Work!

Hope a GTG can be arranged to maintain some sort of momentum.

FWIW, another option may be Wonnangatta CP near Dargo or even at the Dargo Pub itself. The pub has a camping area out the back as well as some quite nice cabins.

We enjoyed the 2015 Muster and are keen to join in for the 2016.Met some great characters and got a CT mast head out of it.

VHC sounds great and it would probably be close enough for Melbourne & Sydney members to make a long week end of it if ***K gets in the way.

Thanks Gazza, you may remember this sign on the Great Alpine Road / Dargo High Plains Road intersection at Mt St Bernard, this was predominately why we changed our minds to follow the group into Dargo last year.
Do you now think, having done that road, that Dargo is achievable by full size vans as I think if the Vic High Country does turn out as the venue there will be a few vans being towed by members.

Tony, not a problem on that road with vans. We in fact discussed it later over a few beers when we had to take an emergency rest stop at the Dargo Pub. The road that was definitely not suitable was the one down onto McKillop Bridge which follows the Snowy River. Photo attached is at Wonnangatta 10-15mins out of Dargo (Gary had mentioned this one)... absolutely beautiful campsite with power, water and running water nearby. Photo courtesy of the GazzaK's drone. Cheers Paul.

Hi Tony,
If you all decided to go to the Dargo area, then I would recommend getting there from the south.
Those travelling from Melbourne direction go via Sale and those travelling to Dargo from up north via the Princes Hwy and Bairnsdale.
Would I take our 21 foot / 3.5T Van on the Dargo High Plains Road (which starts at Dargo and heads north from Dargo)? Notwithstanding the 'warning' sign and after driving along it? No problem at all.

As we will almost certainly not be able to make it any time this year, I'll of course leave it up to you guys to decide where you want to go.
If you're asking for my two bobs worth then I'd vote for Wonnangatta CP. I'm sure Crowboy, PaulM and Singh would be able to chip in with their opinions as well. The reason I say that is Blue Rag Range and Billy Goat Bluff Tracks are easily doable from Dargo as day trips. Also the Wonnangatta Valley generally and the area around Talbotville look magnificent.

We could easily spend a week just there. Best dang [for the sake of our brothers and sisters in the good ole USA :)] country in the world!

I really hope you are all able to pull this one off.

I see PaulM popped up while I was typing. Excellent work.

Yes, I would agree that the road from Buchan, just near the Buchan shops, which are just north of the Buchan Park north to Jindabyne would not be suitable for a caravan. Very narrow with steep drop offs and no room for passing. That pic Paul posted is the place I'm talking about with the DPERS (Dargo Pub Emergency Rest Stop) just down the road!

Watching the thread with interest and will try to make the Muster this year ... shame it can't be a little closer to SA, but Wonnangatta looks a great place to visit.

Early days yet, but will watch the thread for venue and dates.

In the meantime, thinking of heading off to Ceduna and Goog's track later this month ... if the rain ever stops!

Hey I might have missed it but what dates are we talking ?

Regards
Drag
Hi Mark, no date, no venue at this stage, just throwing things around for people to think about and offer their opinions.
The Vic high country seems to have support at this stage but still open to suggestions to both venue and dates, let's know what and when suits you.
Idea is to get it out here on the forum and work with what works for the majority of those expressing interest in attending.

Tony,

We are potential starters, depending on the timing. The Boss is doing a course and we will need to work around that.
Pencil me in...

Mmm, so nothing much has changed since the 70s?
I remember hooning (or should I say, driving spiritedly) along the "road" from Buchan to Suggan Buggan in a GTS 350 Monaro and actually sliding out wide, full blown understear, on the ball bearing gravel and dropping a front wheel over the edge. That slowed me up for quite a few hours after that. Bit scarey. John

Hey Folks....

We are starters as long as we can do it during the September School Holidays, 3rd to the 21st September (School Holidays plus a little bit ).

Now lets work out a venue......???

Stuart...

John,

I bet you wish you had kept that one..!

Are you a starter for the 2016 Muster?

Stu...
Yep, it was actually the cover vehicle in Modern Motor (was the press test car) and is featured in a GM historical feature magazine. Would be worth the odd Dollar or two now.
Being a starter, depends as all things have for a long time now, on being able to sell our golf course so we can have the free time to indulge. It's all in the lap of the gods (or buyers) at this time.
Every thing is crossed.

Hey Peoples, Lets keep this tread rolling.!!!

I am a starter as long as we can do September School Holidays. Drag is also a willing starter if we can lock down a venue and the timing.
Victorian High Country is closed from now until the weekend before Melbourne Cup Day, so that is NOT and option.
Maybe we should be looking somewhere (again) equally distant from Melb, Syd, Bris, Adel, which means Western Central NSW (again) .. Any thoughts or suggestions.

My suggestion is Meet at Camerons Corner then go to Innamincka via The Bore Track ( or Merty Merty depending on track conditions) I understand there is a beautiful camp site on the Cooper Creek at Innamincka.

Cameron's Corner.

The gathering at Trilby Station was too good to forget, so lets get a venue sorted and Lock it In !!

Hi All. Stu, 2014 Muster took in Cameron Corner, Innaminka etc, but of course that was our first 'muster' and thoroughly enjoyed by the few who took part.
This year 'the Dubby's' will be attending the Millmerran Camp Oven Festival, October 1 & 2, a bi-annual event.
This attracts a pretty big crowd. Events include camp oven cooking contests, horse shoeing, shearing, working dogs, tractor pulling & bands/buskers etc.
(google for the 2014 program). Camping on site is $140 unpowered for a week (Sept.26-Oct.3). This includes entry for 2 - both days.
We intend getting there early to explore the local district etc. Just a thought if anyone else would like to join us.

Stuart...

Hi Stuart, good pick up on the closures of VHC trails during winter, it very much passed under my radar.

As Dubby touched on, I'm not sure how much of a turn off your suggestion of holding the '16 Muster in the Channel Country will be to those that attended the 2014 Muster at Silverton (Eldee station) as most of the '14 Muster attendees went north after Eldee to the Dig Tree on Cooper Creek via Tibbuburra, Cameron Corner, Merty Merty and Innamincka before splitting up.

It was a very interesting and enjoyable trip (other than the corrugations into Innamincka) as for us it was our very first trip outback, first group meet and first meet of some great people.

Initially I thought that going over old ground may be a turn off however previewing this post it just occurred to me that seeing Dubby and GazzaK indicated they will not be attending this year's Muster it just leaves Mick (Crowboy) and us as having previously covered that area.

My preference would be for someplace new (to us) but will wait and see what feedback we get from members and go from there, personally I think that we can lock in a date in September which suits you and Dragline and concentrate more on any venues put forward.

Would love to hear more expressions of interest from anyone wishing to attend.
