Actually the emissions warranty is 8/80

http://www3.epa.gov/obd/pubs/420f09048.pdf

Corporate lawyers have probably parsed the EPA rules very carefully to come up with an AdBlue exclusion. I don't think that strategy will work any more. As we all know now, AdBlue is a major emissions system component that must function correctly to meet emissions standards.
Crazy to think that it's the AdBlue system that may be the system that saves VAG ass in this whole mess.

Me thinks they'll rally 'round this system and make the client experience better for all current and future AdBlue customers. Short dollars that offer them maximum current client goodwill.

yeah well ... now could be the time .... are you a good fisherman ???? .... tight lines !!!!

Id like to trade my gas 2006 V6 touareg with someone that has a Passat TDI or Jetta TDI.

Three guys in my office just bought VAG products this week. One picked up a 2011 Jetta SW TDI with 40,000 miles for $8500. Another picked up a 2012 Touareg TDI with 80,000 miles for $22,000, and the third, a 2015 (used) Q7 TDI Prestige for $59,000.

Overall, they did well. I have moved a large share of investments toward VW, and expect to make very nice gains over the next 12 months. American's don't have that great of memories anymore, so I see this blowing over quickly with the upcoming elections taking up most of an individual's mental ram space. My office of 11 guys have pumped over $250,000 into VW stock over the last week. Buy low, sell high. VW isn't going anywhere!

/Pulls out ye old soap box and stands on it again.

Friends, even as a gas only VW owner, I recognize the insanity that is the AdBlue warranty exclusion.

This single issue, which has never affected me, has had a negative impact on my opinion of VW. How much of an soul-less, assine, corporate soul sucking, bean counting "donkey" must one be to be to come up with, much less implement such a policy?

It is time for some serious reforms at VW. And the ones who pushed-promoted the AdBlue warranty exception should be the next group to be fired from the company!

/Gets off the soap box and leaves.

In light of the spotlight, I suspect their view on adblue repairs might swiftly change. I hope this is the case anyways.

I would hope that VW using Adblue across all TDI models would also increase their interest in better quality systems. Warranty aside some of the things I read on here (I have no firsthand experience) would indicate poor quality based on premature failures. With this system (or very similar) being in a plethora of cars (Golf / Passat / Jetta versus Touareg alone) it would behoove VW to build / design it right. Seems like starting in 2015 VW did this for at least the US models, hope things improve as I would love to own a TDI Touareg someday.

I'm not sure if its a quality issue, might be more of a new/developing technology issue. Lab test vs, real world certainly will bring out failures one wouldn't expect.

I get that new technologies are not 100%, that's why it makes sense to back them with a solid warranty to remove the risk of the new tech from the consumer.

Everyone has adblue/def issues - MB, BMW, Ford, GM...everyone. In my experience GM and Ford just deal with the issue head on ie: looks like your DEF system has failed, we can't figure out why so we're just replacing everything at no cost to you - you'll get your truck back in a couple of days. VW on the other hand skirts the issue and transfers the problem to the owner.

True, I agree with the new technology takes time to get right (look at the history of vehicles with gasoline emissions controls during the mid 70's). My point could better be articulated if I were to amend my statement to this: VW is a major driver of diesel tech globally. Until recently their motivation for Adblue technology has been limited to select models. Given the recent events and apparent need for DEF in high volume models, I believe major strides will and must be made in this technology. In tandem with this need, VW must take responsibility for the DEF systems found in present and forthcoming models to instill trust in current and prospective consumers.

I think VW is the key player in the auto industry to get DEF right, reliable, and compliant. Now that all diesel will likely require this, this technology should developed faster.

Fully agree. With 500,000 vehicles out the the break/fix/improve/perfect cycle would be accelerated.

I think you're right, VW needs to take a leadership position after this scandal. You're only as good as your most recent accomplishment (or failure) so lets see what direction they choose to take.

What kind of person takes time to type up this multi-color note with graphics, print and cut to shape for the sole purpose to shame or heckle someone's car. This tragically bitter person drives around with these notes in their car looking for people to bully via pre-printed note. Our society has become..........I don't have a word for it.

Haters gonna hate. There is no fix for stupid.
