I'm doing my 3rd ever oil change on it.. Both previous times I used a tq wrench to tighten the plugs and a rather nice set of allen sockets.. The main drain plug on the pan just stripped.. Had the hex in full depth and it still stripped.

Tried the punch and hammer trick to spin the plug.. Nothing.. Just chipped away the outer edge of the plug so bad that it had a 1/2" wide flat spot on the edge...... So I cussed a lot, threw things and eventually I drilled through it.. Let it drain and used my Ridgid no 10 screw extractor set.. Even the 1/2" one just spun..

So I grabbed about the right sized twist style ez out and welded a nut to it where the stupid ~3/8" square drive was and then pounded it in with a 5lb sledge.. After that I put a socket on a breaker bar and it came loose with a bang that sounded like a 9mm going off...

So it's out.. I wish I had just bought them in case when I picked up the washers and pollen filter today at the stealership... Now I'm going back on monday and getting two new plugs...

I think from now on I'm going brush coat threads with anti-seize... Just because you torque to spec doesn't mean the f*cker wont stick anyway...

Maybe thats y vw change the plug everytime

My dealer's parts guy advised me to spend the $3 on the plug with washer/crimp ring. He said they hear a lot of complaints about the plugs being stripped or whatever and it's just much less hassle to replace it with new at each service.

One of the reasons I do top-out oil changes.
Can't do that with the two sump V8 pan..

Also always get a better drain from the bottom of the pan.

The best solution is a different plug made out of better material. Stock seems to be some lower grade soft aluminum.

I've probably changed the oil 8 times on the Maserati with the original drain plugs.. Just put on a new copper washer.

Right, T1 V8's do have two sumps and the filter on the bottom.

I also just remembered that om my Tiguan the allen type drain plug was superseded/replaced by a regular hex type. Might want to look in to that, they may fit your V8.

Can anybody confirm the V6 TDI drain plug is M14 ( I think so)?
