Good evening,

I'm currently shopping for a '04-'06 V8 Touareg, with 60k-80k miles.

My question is, would I be wise to avoid the models with air suspension, or are the potential issues with this system few and far between? Are there any other obvious issues that I should be looking for? I'm aware of what seems to be the most common issue, driveshafts.

Thanks for your help and input!

I have had my 05 V8 with air for nearly 2 years, and have had no issues with it. In fact, there haven't been alot of issues at all with the air suspension that I have seen on the forums. Obviously a few here and there, bt I would not say that it is a problem area.

Where in WI are you Wallbanger?

I've had two Tregs so far and You couldn't give me one without air ride! It is an amazing system, very reliable and makes all the difference compared to steel...

There's an '07 V8 for sale at VW of Franklin (Milwaukee). No air but mint. It was mine.

Also Wallbanger, there were some issues with some of the early build Touaregs. 04's and early 05's. That being said, I have an early 05 and, knock on wood, have had no issues other than normal maintenance. Make sure if you get one near 80K that the timing belt, water pump, pulleys have been done, as that is a required 80K maintenance issue.

Inspect the unions where the airlines go into the front struts VERY VERY carefully before buying.

These can corrode and snap off.

You may be lucky and get away with just a new union but if not, then you need need new front struts - not cheap.

Remember you are buying a car that was expensive when new and they don't get any cheaper to fix because they are now older and a fraction of the new price.
