Singh,

How long you there for. Tuesday looks like a Cracking Day for the weather. If the tides are right and you get a chance, make the effort to get to the lighthouse. Its a big day but worth it.

Enjoy. Still one of my all time favorite places.

Entering via the slow traffic side I see. Gorgeous anyway, but the tracks can be very slow to travel through the body of the island (if you didn't already know that). Amazing place that I still haven't seen all of. John p.s. PM sent

Thanks gents, will be out to do the lakes tomorrow so see how it goes.
No rain in past two weeks so hear its soft.
Sandy cape on Tuesday....

Enjoy.... great place. We did it around this time last year (was our first Fraser visit). Did you see the recent "bogging videos" at Inskip Point going around at the moment - some may not have heard of reducing tyre pressure :)?

Cheers Paul.

Day 2 went well. Lakes are spectacular, mckanzie is definitely a to do. Both Touraegs did well over the inland tracks.
Tomorrow will be across to eastern side and run up north, see how we go.
Besides the sand driving challenge these tides are a pain so planning it all around it.
Watched few of these videos Paul, makes me anxious heading there :)

Running up the beach on the damp/wet sand is so cruisey you can get lulled into a false sense of security. Most of the creek runouts can be negotiated at speed but the occasional one has a nasty little ridge that can be hard to notice till you're there and which on the approach side is not that much of an issue but on the departure side can do damage. There is lots to see and be amazed by as well as have fun with. You will find like most people do that one visit is not enough. John

Singh,

If you get a chance make sure you do the walk to the top of Indian head. Can get a great panoramic photo of the beach on both side of Indian Head.

If you do get the opportunity to get to the Light House it is worth the walk to the the top. You will be surprised how far around the tip it is.

Also Be careful at Ngkala Rocks. There is a decent wash out before a fairly long uphill run in soft sand. I very much enjoyed driving around a Landcrusier Tray back that was bogged. Should have seen the look on his face. Think he thought I was in a Tiguan.

Tip. Recheck tyre pressures if it is very soft. Amazing how much they can rise driving in the soft stuff. I ended up going to 17 PSI and had no trouble.

Mick

Singh,

Hope to see an update tomorrow night with all the details of the day.

Edit: Sorry just worked out the Eastern drive was today Tuesday ? Cracker of a day if you went today.

Hi Singh,

Of your two beasts, which would be your preferred weapon in the sand?

Hi Mick,
We got out late and spent time enroute at Wabby lake, so could only get as far as Eli Creek to enjoy few hours there before turning back to escape the high tide.

Tomorrow we plan to head out to indian head, do the walk there, tgen champagne pools, checkout the shipwreck, etc.

Running 24psi all sround, and holding up well so far.
Some of the sections, very short, on inland tracks were very tricky, had to then go low range with diffs locked... two wherls up in the air thing....

Stuart...
Gday Stu,
Havent taken the v8 offroad yet and tried its capability. It does seem to have a lower first gear and the offroad selection to make the setup suitable for offroad conditions.

Today again low range first with diffs locked got me through a steep bendy unrven section very easily.
I wonder how it would be in the v8...

Interesting that you are still running fairly high tyre pressures in the really soft stuff. In the stock standard GQ patrol (4.2l petrol) we almost all of our beach stuff in we would occasionally even go as low as 12 psi and get through anywhere even where the rangers were having troubles. 15 - 20 is a really useful range if you're not doing hard turns to roll the tyres off the beads and it makes soft going so much easier with less stress on the vehicle. John

Frasier Island was one of the highlights of my time in Australia years ago. I am visiting again this December/January and have plans to go back to Frasier Island. I wish I had my V10 with me to take on the island!! Great pictures.

24 worked quite well, v10 sailed thru most of it easily John.

Last day here, only made upto champagne pools before turning back before high tide.

The run upto indian head can be tough, had a disco and navara try again and again.

All up a good trip, some pretty cool spots to experience and good tracks.
Personally i prefer inland and outback trips rather than sand bashing and breaking plastic bits off the front:)
Fraser scenery and coastline is nice though, lake mckanzie, eli creek and views from indian head stand out for me.

Ahhh, you can break plastic bits off anywhere, even the local car park. I agree that belting up the beaches is fun for the first 1/2 hr but then gets a bit boring. Some interesting sights along the way though. We have yet to experience the outback to compare preferences.
Still hoping to catch up with you.
John
