What would your next vehicle be???
I know that predominantly the answer will be "another" but just recently considering all the minor and some major problems I've encounter with both my VAG products I'm seriously considering leaving the stable I've belonged to, since my 1972 super beetle (20 years ago!).
I'm suddenly getting hunger pangs to check out some other options out there from mercedes, bmw and gawd damn it, even Acura:p

I bought an Acura MDX for my wife, nice vehicle, but it is not a VW. It sucked in the snow compared to the Touareg, the paint is really thin, and rubs of easily. Metal is thinner, fit and finish is lacking the polish that the German's add. The upside is that they are a lot less likely to have annoying problems.

My brother has a MB, very boring car to drive. I preferred my 03 Passat 4 Motion instead. Service departments are run by Nazi's! Imaging your worst VW experience and double it.

BMW is not bad cars to drive, but you can experience the same problems as the VW in terms of little annoying problems.

If we keep the 'reg in the family, we'd go with something small and sporty. The Elise has caught my eye but after looking at it, it does not seem nearly as refned as what we're driving now. I'm liking the Cayman at the moment too.

If the 'reg is out and I can't for some reason get another, I'd have to get another boat puller... Maybe the Audi, X5 or Cayenne.

I'd have to have a Treg again, I'd look for a lightly used V10. Nothing outhere comes close. Maybe a MB G wagen, they are tough. Had a MDX, nice but no Treg.

I want a new GTI so bad I can taste it... especially the new MKVI coming out this fall.

Hey NorthVan how does your wife like driving the MDX? I'm looking at an 08 (after the 07 redesign) and it would mainly be for my wife as her DD as well as hauling my fishing gear and the two dogs around! Just not sold on a 5 speed slushbox, guess i've been used to 6 speeds for the longest time... Also how's the mpg versus your V8, I'm averaging 15.6l/100km on the treg at the moment but i'm sure the MDX would put up better figures.

Cheers

My thoughts change daily but right now I'd either get a mercedes GL 450 or I'd split up the sport and utility duties between a couple year old F150 and either a new Camaro SS or Mk6 GTI.

I love the Treg but I've been driving one for 5 years...

Haven't the foggiest

I haven't the foggiest what other SUV I would possibley want. I love this car, problems and all.

Now if I had to let the Touareg go and buy another vehicle, it most definitely would be a completely different class of car. Maybe something small and sporty and a convertible or a Smart Car or something like that.

I am hoping to replace mine with another Treg in about a year. We need at least one SUV in our garage. I need to be able to get up the canyons for skiing. :) I personally never had the need for a PU since I don't haul anything that would require one. Wife is happy with her Passat. I would like to have a toy in the garage, but it is not a necessity for me. If we ever trade her Passat in on a GTI I will then have a toy to play with. :)

Here is what i would like as my next car..in like 5 years? The "(dream)choices":

-VW CC
-Touareg 2 V8
-Porsche Cayenne S

Being a new owner of a Touareg and still pretty jazzed about that, I'd say another of the same. During my search for mine I did consider two others. First was a Range Rover. They aren't without some issues but you can't beat the "class" of the look inside and out. I test drove an '04 for a couple days and it was pure pleasure. Filling the tank was a whole other thing though. You'd think there was a leak in the tank the way those bears drink gas. The other was an Infiniti FX 45. Super-model looks and an exhaust note like a race car. Both awesome in different ways. What? No BMW's? Well, great too but it seems they're all over the place. It waters down the style factor. I never was a "same as" guy so that translates directly into the vehicles I like driving. In the end the Touareg is a perfect blend of a fine off-roader with pure class in the cabin and the looks are as distinctive as the FX.

I wouldn't mind a TDI Treg. I was in the market for an Audi A4 Quattro, but needed the towing capability for the boat. Got the BMW and love it, got the Datsun for open air rocketing around.

If I had to choose something other than a treg, then I'd probably just go back to my old 2001 Chevy Silverado or a BMW X6. I also kinda like the look of the new Audi Q5.

1. VW CC! (omg, sex on wheels! )

2. 2004 New Beetle TDI

I am VW forever, so no Mercedes for me. ;)

LOL I just came from a B7 A4 Quattro and moved to a Touareg. The A4 Quattro does GREAT in the snow, handles great, great interior, reliability was great, excellent gas mileage, BUT the rear seats sucked -- didn't have enough room in the back seats unless you were 3 years old or less. Also, there were a couple days here in Colorado where it wasn't a matter of traction because as long as my A4 had the clearance, it could get through anything, but there were some days where clearance from heavy snow was an issue for me. Also, I want to do some off-roading and camping, so, I moved to a Touareg. Obviously, the big downside was gas mileage, but all in all, I'm happy with the transition. I have nothing but great things to say about the A4 Quattro (other than the rear seats). That car is one of the best cars that I've ever owned.

I agree 100% with your statement! I came from a B6 Avant and I have to say that that car when fitted with the appropiate tires was awesome in the snow, its only drawback was clearance (mine was factory lowered). My inlaws live up a hill with a long sweeping driveway which this past winter was treacherous, thier audi made it up on all but one occasion. If I didn't have enough momentum in my T (with winter tires) I would lose traction and spin back down the hill which was very scary. Ever since I chose to chain up at the bottom of thier driveway. I think under normal driving conditions i.e. light snow, quattro has everything beat hands down!
