Ironically, the other day I posted a complaint in another forum that the radio did not have RDS. I did not see any infomation in the manual or any button on the unit itself, so I assumed it did not have it.

Well, after stumbling across som posts (here, I think), I saw the problem that other people had.

Anyway, I performed the procedure mentioned by 4x4s - temporarily remove the radio's fuse - and garsh dangit, it worked! My RDS now works, presets and all. It does not display in the MFI (the color one).

Like a charm - hat's off to you 4x4s for finding it!

I just completed the procedure myself and it worked. I do wish the MFI would be better integrated with the radio features such as RDS and preset stations.

I have the same. Are you referring to the fuse in the main fuse block?

It's fuse #11 in the passanger side fuse panel. Pull it out, wait a few seconds, put it back in.

I wish I could take credit for being so clever to figure out this magic. I was just trying to reproduce a problem, and accidently fixed it!

How do you tell if your system is equipped with it?

One way is to press and hold the 'MIX' button. This should put you into a diagnostic display. Press the mix button several times to cycle through several displays. You should get to one eventually that shows RDS error info.

If you are tuned to a station that broadcasts RDS info, you will see something like: RDS Error rate x% - this tells yu how well the signal is being received and decoded.

When tuned to a station that does not broadcast RDS, it will say something like: RDS no data.

While on this display, you can tune the radio to find different stations, looking for one that does broadcast RDS. (Note that non-zero error rate is okay, you should still see something display, but may miss a character or two. The system was designed to work somewhat with poor signals.)

It's possible that your RDS is working, but there are no stations in your area that broadcast the data. Not all do, and amongst those that do, what they send is completely up to them. In my area, there are a few stations that send the currently playing artist/title (when it's available to them on thier source media). But most stations here just send thier call letters, or sometimes a slogan (e.g., 'classic rock', 'country hits', etc.). Even more stations don't seem to send any RDS at all.

Well, thanks for your directions. It does work, but i only found one station in my area (Seattle 97.3) that showed any response, something like an 18 to 30 % error. That was for voice, not music. I'm at work, so I don't have time to stay in my Touareg and listen to the radio. :lol: I set it to that station for the ride home. :arrow:

With PP II, is there a MIX button? The only way I could get to one is by playing CD's in the changer.

The MIX button is available on the non-nav radio head unit. I don't know about the nav-radio, but would suspect that if there is a MIX function, that it does not invoke the diagnostic display like it does on the non-nav unit/

I've been meaning to do this since...oooooh, <looking at watch> February. One silly little question...Where is the Fuse box and how does one get into it? I just went out to look for it on the passenger side and couldn't find it. I'm sure it's right under my nose, but I'll be damned if can find it. Thanks for any help!

The fuse box is beneath the panel. If you look closely around the edges, you can find a spot to slip a screwdriver or something else in to gently pry the panel away.

Open the passenger side door. Panel is located on the part of the front dash that is exposed when the door is open (similar panel on the drivers side). As mentioned above there is a small detent in the panel into which to insert your prying device.

Note to the thread, I too had RDS disable in use. I used the outlined fuse reset to get it back. Alas two weeks later RDS is disabled again. As the radio is the only issue I have with the vehicle, I should consider myself blessed and attempt to get the radio swapped out at 5000 mile checkup next week. (Non-NAV radio)

Fuses inside both doors

There are fuses inside both doors. Same location for each. The detent is at the bottom of the panel. Use something soft to ensure you dont mar the plastic (such as with a metal screw driver). When my TPMS disappeared from the MFI I pulled a fuse on each side, started the vehicle, turned it off, replaced the fuses, and it came back. I have heard of it working with just the one on the driver side though. Did it once and havent had the problem again. Never had the RDS problem though.

I'm trying to perform this suggested Fuse 11 trick but when I went to the fuse area, I discovered I'm missing fuse 11. Any ideas to why the fuse would be missing?

What year is your Touareg? I know it was there in my 2005, and it seems logical that it was there in 2004m since that's when this came about. Maybe they changed it in the more recent years, if you have a newer model.
