Some really good info here and thanks Cymro333 for the write up.

My new 66plate R-line is being delivered on Tues so will be looking to buy and install this asap. Looks straight forward enough.

Power lead routing?

I have just been advised that my Carnavi delivered tomorrow.

Great advice on the site about wiring and fitting the camera in the tailgate, particularly by Cymro333.

My Query is..... what is the best way to route the camera power lead through the car? Some have gone via the headlining and some via the floor trim panels. Some clear guidance on how to do both would be appreciated.

I chose the floor trim to avoid the airbags. Really easy to fit I just lifted the plastic floor trim slightly and pushed the cable between the trim and the carpet, quick, easy and unnoticeable.

Any help then please let me know

Haha haven't even tried to put mine in yet. Had it for week and half. Wife won't stop driving the car for me to install. But thanks to all info here, I've studied from you guy's I'm not to worried. Once I get going on the project I'll post if I have anything to add to simplify the install.
I will look at roof just because that's how they were wired from factory. If it is as much as a pain in a$$ as some say I will not spend much time on it and go through floor.

Kudos goes to Cymro333!

Thanks for the thorough write up Cymro333, made the install easy though with hindsight I'd feed the wire via the floor if I did it again (lots of airbags in the roof lining!). Some really good info on this site generally!

Spent the afternoon installing the Carnaviplayer kit and got everything together, but no video. Came back here and read (no instructions included in package), and figured out that the camera isn't getting power. Seems odd that almost everything has a connector, and it's a Touareg specific unit (decoder calls out dip switch settings for Touareg), but a simple connector on the blue lead is absent...

It's the camera or 6 meters video cable has issue.
1. Please check the 6 meters video cable and make sure the cable is not damaged when installation.
2. Please check the camera connection, make sure the mini connectors are connected correctly. Align the two arrows.

3. Please check the four pins in the mini connector, make sure the pins are not bent.

4. Please check the power wire of backup camera. Make sure it is connected to the wire 3 in the wiring diagram.

The installation manual is on the product page: Volkswagen Touareg 2011-2017 backup Camera System
"a simple connector on the blue lead is absent"
Can you tell me which connector is absent?

Connector on #3 is absent. Easily remedied with a connector from the auto parts store (pack of 10 unfortunately when needing only 1), but it seems like an oversight given a connector is on #2.

Anyway, functional now. Due to the short reach of the stock LVDS cable in the car, I installed the decoder on the side of the glove box behind the fuse panel using some velcro...whereas I saw others placing it in the center console.

I have just installed the Carnaviplayer reversing camera on my RHD 2011 Touareg and delighted with the outcome, major issue was getting access to the PDS - which in RHD vehicles is tucked up high in the dash above the fuse panel. Identifying and getting access was my biggest problem and probably took me a couple of hours to sort out.

Special thanks to Cymro333 - see his post#267 for his process.

Cheers

Mike

I am very happy with my decision to go with the Carnaviplayer and delighted with the outcome - my install took longer than I expected, mainly due to location of the PDS in the RHD models. Suggest running the video cable along the left side lower door trim but make sure you get the cable on the right side of the rear seat belt fitting :-(.

Assumes that you have the Parking Distance system and RNS850.

Cheers

Mike
