I got the real deal VW/Audi Webasto T91 kit off a seller on ebay. It arrived today in the vw packaging with all the pieces including the battery for the remote. $220 plus shipping from the Czech Republic. It included the installation instructions (in German) so once I figure out how to translate them into english, I'll post them with my version of the DIY.

I also grabbed the instruction manual for the remote. I had no idea you could use the remote to make the thing turn on and run for 120 minutes!

If I can find all the instructions in my E-Bahn for the different disassembly aspects I might dive in and do the installation tomorrow.

V10., now that you have done the install, any estimates on how long should it take assuming no issues with disassembly?

Nancy
It took me 2 days to complete as I was taking it very slowly - installation instructions were in German like yours and I had to use common sense. If I had to do it again it would not take me more than a day.

Checked my ETKA and it says 6C3 for what it calls crystal grey. But it also calls Pure Beige 7R3 instead of 7G8. Perhaps someone else can weigh in on this.
Interesting...

I am adding the color number to my DIY and was looking at the ETKA. The one I have has the following color codes for MY2004-MY2006:

5J6 - crystal grey
7G8 - beige
7H7 - sunshine beige

MY2007 added one more color to the list:

28U - latte machiato (brown)

I did not see any of the color codes you mentioned in the ETKA.

V10 TDI: Parking Heater Mod with Remote Control and Timer

Moderators, please replace my original post from this thread with this one.

Here is the updated DIY on how to convert the additional heater found in NA spec'ed V10 TDIs to a parking heater operated via a remote control and via a timer. The document now includes answers

Attached are also Webasto Troubleshooting PDF as well as Self Study Program PDFs on the Thermo Top C heater found in Touaregs and Phaetons. I figured it will be helpful to put all these in one place - I take no credit on these.

Last but not least included here is a link to the PDF version of the T91 User Manual, located on Webasto's website.

http://www.parkingheater.com/fileadmin/user_upload/downloads/2009_INT_PARKING_HEATER_MANUAL_T91.pdf

I hope the information provided is complete and easy to understand. Pardon any spelling or grammar errors.

Big thank you goes to lgibson, who was kind enough to provide his help and feedback needed to complete this DIY.

Okay, I bit the bullet. Ordered the T91 VW kit from carsystems.pl
UPS tracking says it will arrive Friday - ONLY 2 DAYS from ordering!!!

As far as I know, this will be the first install of the non-dealer T91 kit, which is significantly cheaper (about $200).

Will post results.

Good luck!

I am curious if the mod will for on a 2008 V10. Anyone brave enough to try?

SUCCESS!!!

After I don't know how many years of trying to figure this out, I cannot believe how simple this was.

Three days after ordering the T91 kit for $200, I have a remote controlled auxilliary heater. This is awesome.

2006 V10, no heater electronics change and no overhead timer. Just the Webasto T91 kit (non-dealer).

Install is postponed. I didn't have the pin to go into the heater connector under the wheelwell, so I postponed until I can order it. I'm tied up for next few weeks, so the install will be after turkey day att
Don't need to order a pin connector: The Webasto plug has six pins, but we only need three (+, -, and heater control pin 1). You can take the Webasto connector apart and remove one of the unused pins, which is a perfect fit for the pin 1 connector in wheelwell.

Welcome to the other side :drunk:

Quick summary:

Ordered VW T91 kit from carsystems.pl (available either direct or ebay.de - cheaper shipping on ebay)

Arrived in two days (notice nice VW logo on remote):

Followed directions from V10TDI (thank you for the pioneering work).

The kit is not as plug and play as the OEM dealer kit since the pin connector for the pin 1 on the heater is not included. However, the blue Webasto connector (in pic) has three extra pin connectors and they are the same as is needed on the heater plug. So I just removed an extra pin from the Webasto connector.

The heater fired right up and ran for the full cycle.

No other modifications, no VAG programing, no overhead timer.

Just the T91 kit.

Thanks. Going to place my order.
I am curious to see what address 18 Aux. Heater looks like on a '08 V10. Do you mind posting your vag scan here?

lgibson and teutonicV10,

What is your experience with the T91 remote range so far? I don't think I am getting anywhere close to what it should be but want to make sure I am not being paranoid.

In order to achieve the same level of "clean" install as the OEM kit including the fuse in the fuse box, I purchased the VW connector pin for the fuse box.

Here are the VW part numbers (VW calls them "repair wires"):

4.8mm terminals - ATO fuse (large fuses)
000 979 023 : 0.5mm wire (000979023)
000 979 135 : 1.0mm wire (000979135)
000 979 227 : 2.5mm wire (000979227)
000 979 306 : 4.0mm wire (

They are about $8 and include two connectors attached to about 12" of wire. I used the 1.0 mm wire installed in terminal 20 (always on).
