anybody know how to?
My 2012 Tiguan SEL has that feature, however lower trims (without xenons) use fog lights just like a T3. VW could've easily made that option available on a T3 instead of a useless dot bulb (or whatever it's called) that occupies the high beam area. The adaptive lights turn in the T2 as well (if equipped) but they also have lamp that is angled towards the corner. It's a shame they got rid of that in the T3's and replaced it with the fog lamp turning on; not nearly as useful. If you are taking a sharp turn, say into your driveway, this lamp in the T2's (and our B6 Passat) illuminates to where you can look out your side window as you turn with full illumination of everything. It's above and beyond just "adaptive lights." T3 decontent.![]()
I have not stood in front of my new T3 to see exactly what it does, but to me it looks like the actual headights turn maybe 15°-20° while going around the corner. The only time something actually turns on is at night with the turn signals, there's a white light that shines sideways from somewhere up front. Both my Treg and my Wife's Tiguan with AFS xenons have the cornering light feature, probably my favorite feature in the vehicle. Makes a HUGE diference in nightime driving, even in the city. You don't need to do anything, as soon as you start to turn the steering wheel it fires on the side beam.
No fog light trickery which is good, I really dislike foglight in general - the are esentially useless.
I haven't seen the T3 setup at night, do you get any sideways light out of it?
Nothing to write home about but yeah, it's there.I haven't seen the T3 setup at night, do you get any sideways light out of it?
I was about to argue with you about it, just because it sounded like fun, but then I saw that you had a '12. Apparently, the implementation is different from the T1 & T2. They use separate bulbs in the headlight, with a really nice fadeout effect when you straighten back out. I really like the feature. I think if it used 1 fog light instead, like yours apparently does, it would annoy the CRAP outta me.My headlights work fine.
Instead of arguing why I would want to ditch this obnoxious feature, how about we focus on the title question.
I have adaptive as well, but with a much better cornering light from the sound of it. The fog light seems like it would not be as helpful IMO.Don't need in T3, the adaptive lights turn on their own.
My Treg and tiguan have the beams that turn about 15-20 deg as well, but that is only noticeable at higher speeds (perfect on a windy country road)...this is more parking lot speeds that I'm talking about ie: you are turning at an intersection, side beam fires, you get a well lit view of the pedestrians in the crosswalk. Its literally a light out the side, kind of like a (dare I say it) late 70s Caddillac.I have not stood in front of my new T3 to see exactly what it does, but to me it looks like the actual headights turn maybe 15°-20° while going around the corner. The only time something actually turns on is at night with the turn signals, there's a white light that shines sideways from somewhere up front.
Video would be great...i'm curious to see it.Maybe I'll take a video of how obnoxious it can be. My driveway forces a quick left/right movement which activates one after the other. I feel like its a disco in my driveway![]()
