I just applied it last night and have to say, WOW!
She shifts like a German car now, this old Buick shift pattern is totally gone.
I wonder why VW would treat US customers with such poor default shifting pattern, aren't we the most loved nation in the world?

Only by your neighbours to the north;)

BTW, does it shift more like the sport setting? I am curious, as this is something I would love to try out.

No, it just shifts smoother over all. Plus it gives you hill hold in Hi range as well.

Well, now that I got rid of that NA sabotage setting in my transmission, she shifts a lot different. Third to fourth is perfect, see no difference from any other gear. Fifth to sixth is a bit more definitive, but only under low throttle, yet it is fine under some acceleration. If I was to drive my car for the first time now, I would not notice any 5th-6th issue.
I did not do any WOT driving lately, but when I hummer it to 3/4 throttle, or more, 3dr to 4th seem to shift perfectly. I am keeping my fingers crossed though.

Do you have the VAG thing, if not come over we will play with your digitals :)

Above are my results when I switched to 4200 (ROW) in Mar 2009. I switched back and forth between this and 4136 (NA). 4136 is smoother but also seems to have more lag. 4200, on the other hand is more positive. Don't get me wrong, it is still pretty smooth and you will not notice shifts unless you are paying attention. Downshifting is where it really helped out plus you get hill holder feature (will keep you from rolling backwards or forward when stopped on a hill. Really usefull, specially when towing.

Would you able to let us know which module in the VAG and what value one makes the change to for ROW? I tried searching for this here but cant find it.
Transmission module. Most of us are using 4200 ROW code rather then the 4153 that it came with. There is a 4216 ROW code as well, but not sure what that exactly does. I am running the 4200 and it smoothed out the shifts for me, but I also have a valve body issue the dealer fails to acknowlege. I am just waiting for it to go out completely for them to fix it or hoping I can trade it before it goes out. I as well as Vegas Matt noticed it seemed to hold gears while going down steep passed better then it did with the US coding. I am not referring to offroad stuff, but steep mountain roads. We noticed if you did not touch the throttle it would hold speed in a lower gear rather then having to use brakes as often.

Thought I would give this a try, too and see how I like it.

Hello everyone I've just been reading up on all the advice and comments on this issue and I'm wondering if changing the codes to a ROW setting could be the answer. I've been experiencing some serious back jerking when I accelerate on the highway and I wonder if this would help. I've already changed the tranny fluid and it's still there. What do you guys think?

#22 ·
Sounds more like the valve body in the transmission needs to be replaced.

I changed my tranny oil out with amsoil and set the settings in ROW.
I love it but still need a new valvebody one of these days.
Hill hold is a great feature.

When putting the treg on the market VWofA must have asked buick owners only for their opinion on shifting.

Surprisingly... I'm told the valve body (as repairs go on a Touareg) isn't the worse bill in the world... about 400-bucks.

Damn... you Ohio guys are going to have too much fun. Maybe instead there needs to be a mid-west meet up.

I could dig-out my Cherokee Trails ProRally navigator's route book and we could all meet in TN up in the hills for some spirited driving on what were used as stage-roads. That looks sort-of mid-point-ish between OH and TX and could include a lot of the middle stater's.

How come (obviating the short vs long coding differences)? Has it already been included... ?

You probably already have the latest one available for your year Treg. You can look at it and see, but you should have the same tranny as the rest of us. So I can't imagine it is that much different code wise. Check the tranny code and see what it is.

wow

just did this on my v6 and it drives like a completely different car, wow. it's way more fun to drive now. definitely much more natural shifting pattern.

the smoothness part, i find myself not realizing what gear i'm in, or simply missing the shifts completely (i guess if im not paying enough attention :) ). also, it feels like the power is available right then when you need it without jerky downshifts.

curious to see the effect on the gas mileage. too early to say in my case.

Just did the 4200 code on my 09 T2. I do notice a difference (good difference). I am curious as to what the latest ROW coding is from factory. Perhaps one of our European members can chime in?
Thing is your 09 should have came with completely different coding from the earlier Tregs. So you should not have had to change it at all. What was your code previous to the ROW code?
