Transmission fluid leak

I noticed an oil drip on my driveway from my 2006 VW Touareg 5.0L V10 TDI so i removed the protective plastic shield below the vehicle. I noticed the fluid was red which indicated to me that it was transmission fluid. I wiped everything clean & tightened the bolts on the transmission oil pan. After having the vehicle sit for a few hours there was fluid collecting at the threaded hole of the transmission. Is there a plug missing from the threaded hole?

The first picture shows the fluid leaking out of the threaded hole. The second photo shows a close up of the hole.

I'd ask your dealer straightaway - send them the pic.

Whatever happens you need the fluid level checked.

Depending on the mileage I'd consider changing it anyway despite the fact VW say the boxes are "sealed for life".

I noticed that you had the dealer perform the transmission repair. Did you have extended warranty coverage? If not, a competent independent transmission specialist shop would have performed this for 75% of the associated tranny costs.

As to why they had to induce significantly more labour time, by dropping the engine as well, in order to gain access to the tranny seal is beyond me.

How long does it take you to R&R the engine/transmission [not including any actual repair work]?

Add me to the list of seal failures. I need a new TCM and all associated electrical components. The Treg trailered my race car 250mi, started up the next morning to take my daughter to day care, then entered limp mode when I was by myself on a 2mi drive to Home Depot to buy a plug for my race car's new SD/VTA system. I consider myself lucky.
Estimated cost for repair is $3200 with a "Good guy" discount.
If anything else is broken, the additional cost will be about $4. That should cover a gallon of gasoline and a lighter.

Here in the UK I'd need 10 bucks!

trans leak

oh dear, I seem to have the same problem?

poor old Rosy got a bit of a flogging hauling the camper over the sand tracks
in our "Deep South"

I was planning on a transmission flush this week, but I guess it will need
some major work now?

If she lives, I may lash out on Mr Drags Bash plates, this is all that's left of
the old one.

Main seal issue, cheap seal but of course the labour is expensive.

a local tranny shop reckon they can get the box out with removing the engine? However they have not done a V10 auto box before, so it will be determined when they get it on the hoist.
Now that will be a first!

Any chance of a couple of photos from the guys doing the work?

picked up Rosie on Monday, tranny seems fine, total cost was $1835

no photos unfortunately.

they got a bit of practice removing and fitting the transmission,
apparently they fitted it up and found a bracket which needed to go on before
so they had to remove and refit the trans a second time, LOL.

all good but is a vibration at low revs accompanied by a GRRRR noise?
noticeable when warm and from 900rpm to idle its independent of which gear its in.

am taking it back tomorrow to get it investigated.

Interesting, first for sure where transmission has been removed independently!
