which do you think is a better car , in your unbaised opinion and please do tel me..

does the apparent better handling capabilities of the touareg outweight its lower MPG than the X5?

The touareg weighs 500 more lbs.
The BMW has a better engine ( inline 6)

opinions, suggestions or add ons?

I am not a fan of the X5 at all, over priced and a useless SUV in my opinion, they CANNOT leave the pavement, period. They get stuck on wet grass. The touareg is a much better car in my opinion, not to mention around here you're looked at like an D-bag if you drive one. The touareg rides great on road, is great offroad and has that understated class without shoving it on your face like the BMW.

+1 and have you seen the X5 replacement, the X6, there was one over here and on display at a popular mall. Sits lower to the ground than the X5 and even more useless than it's predecessor.

gambino, you clearly looking for a racing SUV. Just get X5 or Cayenne and be happy. Touareg is fast but not oriented for specifically fast speed driving. It will take a number of modifications to Touareg to get results you will achieve if you just get X5 or Cayenne.

Hey Gambino997, are you posting on other forums under joeygambino? You seem to have the same troll like posts. Get involved in the discussion, don't make statements and then not stay involved in the thread. You ask questions and make statements, if you are looking for feedback then great I am sure people are happy to help, otherwise stop asking silly questions.

If you are not a troll then my sincerest apologies

The inline 6 may be a better engine than the t'egs V6 but the V8 and V10 are world class engines and few would compare to them. If you want an urban SUV with the panache of BMW then sure the X5 is a good choice. If you want a vehicle that can go offroad, not get stuck in two feet of snow and still eat up highway miles at 200km/h then the Touareg is the way to go.

For me it was a combination of off-road capability, price and the interior. The X5 off-road capability is non-existant, they are higher priced than a comparable Touareg and the X5's interior just isn't up to the level of the Touareg IMHO. The one area where the X5 is way ahead of the Touareg is the audio system. Compared to the X5 the Touareg's audio system sounds like it's from Hyundai. =(

Ohh, and the X6 isn't a replacement for the X5, it's just another cross over sporty vehicle thing that Chris Bangle came up with in a nightmare and convinced BMW they could sell it to rich executives who have money to blow on something ugly.

I went to the dealership to buy an X-5 and my dog carriers woudn't fit behind the back seat. The BMW place had a VW store across the parking lot and the rest is history. Two Tregs later and I'm still very happy.

Out of the box, the X5 is faster through the twisty bits and corners flatter - more car like. The engines are VERY good - BMW's best bit has always been its engines.

I went out to buy an X5 and came home with a Touareg - it was a better all round modern vehicle. Quieter, better appointed, more modern looking. I know two people who have had X5's and traded them in on a Touareg, don't know anyone who went the other way.

Touareg >>>>> X5 and there was a road test by one magazine that proved it. (I forget which one) Originally I got the egg for its looks. I was at the car dealer getting ready to pick up my Acura MDX and this damn touareg had it blocked in lol They had to move the touareg to get to the acura. Thank god for that. After test driving both (because I was already set on the acura) The egg was the best deal but 7 grand more. I've had mine since oct and I'm loving it. We had a snowing week in NY so I've been testing it out.

I had a day trip with an X5 recently, it went everywhere my t'reg did and probably a bit better than the treg on sand (the X5 had huge tyres). We swapped car at one stage, and I'd have to say the X5's diesel is very smooth and had a very smooth torque curve (compared to my R5 tdi). As we had to turn off ESP most of the electronics didn't work but the centre diff on boths worked flawlessly.

Personally I wouldn't say it's a lesser vehicle off-road than the treg nor would I say the treg is a lesser vehicle on road (other than that the X5 is a bit harder in suspension tuning). Having said all of above, the price tag would probably mean the treg is 'much' better value for me (at least here in Australia).
cheers

 You guys must have a different X5 over there because the ones here are useless on EVERYTHING but cement, period. Watch Jeremy clarkson's review of the SUV on top gear, the X5 gets stuck on FLAT grass, its very amusing.

My Friend had an X5 4.4 and while a nice SAV cause its useless off pavement is not quite as nice as my tregg. i have the V8 and think its just as fast as the 4.4... Also I read somewhere where the stiffness of the cars is what gives it the smooth handling.

I know the 05 treg had a stiffness rating of 40hz which is about the same as the lux Audi A8 sedan 42hz. The BMW X5 has a rating of 35hz.. so that means the Tregger should handle much better on road then the BMW as well

Most suvs have a rating between 22-25hz which makes for a pretty ****ty ride.

I'm happy with mine

Can't we just dump all these X5 vs. Touareg threads into File thirteen Please!!!!!!

1. Everyone here liked the Touareg enough to buy one

2. Every car does not meet everyones idividual needs all the time.

3. The X5, Q7 and MDX are all soft roaders. ( Noone on here brings up any Q7 vs. Touareg comparoes.

4. This is an enthusiast site for a specific Vehicle, By a show of hands how many people here own a touareg or know someone that owns a Touareg............... Oh I thought so.

5. Stop ragging on the X5 getting stuck on grass because the tires have alot to do with traction as well. (example I had a mercedes C Class with 15 inch wheels, occasionally I would go to the beach and never got stuck, but as soon as I upsized to 17 inch with bridgestone potenza RE 730's the damn thing got stuck, really embarassing if you ask me)

Maybe we should have a ragging section that way we can piss on any vehicle we don't like.

Its not odd for a car to get stuck on sand its odd for a so called SUV to get stuck on wet grass lol I don't think anyone here is saying everyone should own a treg or that the treg is the best Jeep. Its just a discussion on two vehicles. Don't act like they don't discuss things like this on a BMW forum or an Acura forum. Its what people do.

go ahead, waste your money on a BMW, then waste even more money low profile tires and bling bling 22's because that is all they are good for. Tregs are cheaper with more options and can go almost any where at any time

You will find the bias opinions on each and every forum you visit. It doesn't matter what the topic is you will find someone that disagrees with your opinion and you will get somewhat aggressive people telling you their beliefs and why you are in the wrong about your life decisions.

4X4 or 4X2? / on road or off road? / lift or no lift? / oversize wheels and what size? / leave stock or modify?

The list goes goes on to no end, and you find some people that find fault with whatever you decide.

Good luck with YOUR decisions.

I noticed the other day there was an x5 or x6 here in my little tiny farm town of Coshocton, Ohio.. it was a WOAH moment..someone must had been in for the holiday or one of the town docs got a new car.. my advantage with the treg is everyone looks and goes wtf is that?! ( same with the tow driver that came to take it to the shop today)

I'm like the only treg here but my mum swears my old knee surgeon has one..maybe his wife's..Im not sure..but for this little farm town Ive been seeing so many Lexus "soccer mom" SUV's since I moved back from Cincy it makes me sick!

as for the B'mr getting stuck on grass calls for major LOLZ!

A pal of mine has the x5 fully loaded, but having taken it for a drive I would stick with my 05 touareg tdi. Bmw are over rated and when it comes to service and parts the euros mount up. And the x6 just looks like they ran out of money and good ideas.
