Hey Guys

I have been looking to sell my 03 Jetta Glx w/ 60,000 Miles on it for a couple of months now and I have been looking to get a V10 Touareg, I have found a few thathave about 50,000 Miles that are 2004's and are about $24,000 and now I have found a 2006 with 107,000. for $20,500.

Both are Single owner While the 06 has all service records and is a private seller, That is alot of miles.

My question to you guys is a V10 that has been properly maintained a good buy with 107,000 on it? or would you rather take the 04 with have the amount of miles?

Here is the link of to the 06

Well I have an 04 with more miles than the 06. V10 engine good for 600,000 miles or more. Normal maintenance would be the order of the day for other parts. Really 100,000 miles is not a big deal for and engine, especially this one that was designed for trucks. half of it was that is.

in my opinion, sight unseen, if it is as described this sounds like a good deal and at your price of $20500.(??), it is even a better deal. I would probably shift some of the money you are saving to an extended warranty just in case.

new brakes and new tires are another $$$ plus

with 100k miles, I would want to know what repairs it has needed and has had completed. My opinion from what I have read and my experience with my 06V10 albeit with 42k miles is that this engine, if properly maintained and driven is built to go the distance.

I would think seriously about changing the tranny fluid if it hasn't already been done.

Financially, if there was a reason not to keep it, you should be able to trade it in without a loss at that price and, then, you would also be offering a transferrable extended warranty and complete paperwork...

My 2007 V10 has 95,000 miles. I purchased it new have had only a few minor problems along the way.

I change the oil and rotate the tires every 5-6K. It gets a new fuel filter every 20K.
I had ALL the remaining fluids changed at 80K along with the drive shaft bearing. It failed on the way to the shop for service.

I hope to get another 200K of service.....

Btw......$20.5K is a great deal. I wouldn't take less than 40K for mine as i couln't buy anything comparable for less.

the over $5k price is dealer price and that is for the 2 DPFs.

the 120k miles VW replacement recommendation was an after purchase manual insert mailed from VW. I think it replaced the VW "thank you very much for purchasing a Touareg" greeting card.

Not sure what happens if you wait until they actually need to be repaired or replaced- other than saving $$$$ of course

Just one more reason to hate DPFs. I would say it's like any other part -- don't replace it until it fails, or until you fail an emissions test. Most states don't even test emissions on diesel engines. Here in Texas, for better or worse, most guys just straight-pipe exhaust pieces when they fail. Not saying it's right -- it's illegal -- but it happens all the time, especially in states where no one is looking.

If someone said to replace the tranny at 150k, but it was working fine, would you do it? I say treat the DPFs the same way.

I'll go on being thankful that my 2004 doesn't have this "technology."

Cheers, John

I presume you have to drop the engine to access the DPFs????????

siberian
I dont think you need to drop the engine to access the DPF's, it just simply looks like another muffler that you can un-bolt from the exhaust pipes and hangers...

I'm glad my 04 doesn't have that stuff on it, I wonder if there is any aftermarket bypass kits available yet? Like on the Ford PSD's and Cummins...
