Touareg 2 Colors: A Favor

I’m trying hard to buy a TDI Touareg 2, but my wife is dragging her heels over the pathetic selections of colors available -- black, white, four shades of grey, brown, and blue. Chips in the brochure are misleading, as are the colors on the VW website. Complicating the matter is the scarcity of Touaregs on dealer lots, so seeing vehicles in the flesh is difficult. Mary has vetoed black, white, blue, and brown, so we’re reduced to the four shades of grey: cool silver metallic, canyon grey metallic, flint grey metallic, and Galapagos grey metallic.

Here’s the favor: it would help if owners of vehicles in these colors would post pictures taken in sunlight so she can get a better sense of what these shades look like in real life. Ideally, the pictures would include views of interiors so we can see how the three interior choices look with the various greys.

With this request as a foundation, should not the Club Touareg Gallery include threads for photos of vehicles in each of the colors available?

Finally, what the H is VW America thinking in restricting the Touareg palette as severely as they have done? No greens; no cream, tan, yellow, gold; no medium or light blue; no reds or maroons. Instead we get FOUR greys. Mary saw an Opera Red Passat in a showroom and fell in love with it. If the Touareg still came in the nice maroon which used to be available, I’d already have bought one.

I’m guessing that you’re talking about brand-new Touareg TDI 2012 or later which most folks on this forum accustomed to call T3, correct? I agree with you that neither VW website nor VW brochure do give a real impression what their colors are. I was after Galapagos grey based on the above mentioned sources of information and was at the point of placing an order to custom-built one (up to 3 month waiting time), but when my Lady asked me to show what I am buying for over $50k, local dealer had only one dark flint metallic Touareg on their lot to show (received a day before). Both of us fell in love with this color that looked so dull on the website and I ended up buying this vehicle right on a spot. Now they have 4 or 5 Touaregs on their lot and one of them is of Galapagos grey – it looks good, but I am not sure I would prefer this one to what I’ve got… I’ll take a pic later on and post it if this will help you. BTW, I think that the black Touaregs look the best, but this color demands constant washing and this is too much for me to tolerate…

Pathetic choice of colors, alas, and one that has been discussed countless times. I'm absolutely appalled at the choice of Alaska Gray for my State for example - obviously the marketing dept. of VW has never been up here.

It's back to Henry Ferd when he said you can have it any color you want as long as it's BLACK.

I guess Das Auto is not meant for Ferrari Red or Jaguar Green or... Yellow and Black of the Cudas...

All the premium SUVs right now are available in white, black or 10 shades of grey. Its not just VW, everyone is playing this game...

blame the consumer panels that tell the automakers what we like.

I wonder what colors would look good on the Touareg that we don't have. Some colors would be plain ugly. It's amazing how some make it look sharp and classy, others sporty, and some even cheap or ugly. I really like my black. (Black Magic Pearl Effect) It's even amazing how many different blacks there are.

...the pathetic selections of colors available -- black, white, four shades of grey, brown, and blue...
You and your wife are definitely speaking my language. It's absolutely pitiful.

All IMHO...

I first saw the Galopogos gray - it's dark and kind of a chameleon color, with hints of green.

The dark flint is a medium gray, and the canyon gray is a lighter and more distinctive gray.

The cool silver is simply stunning, a very bright and vibrant color, which of course can be matched with three pitiful interior colors. BTW, the silver on the Treg is not the same as the silver on the Passat/Jetta.

For reasons unclear to me, evidently VW hasn't considered the concept of a light gray interior...

I hope this helps, and good luck.
