Top speed limited?

Does anyone know the top speed of the Touareg? I have a TDI 180 MY13 (now run in and almost 3 months old), and regularly cruise on 140-150km/hr (live in the Northern Territory where we can do this). It is a fantastic highway cruiser and all round great car. Gave it a burst today, and it seems to be electronically limited to 234km/hr. Anyone had any experience with this? Steering / suspension (in sport) is tight as a rock at this speed.
Also, as a side note, I paid $420 including delivery for OEM sidesteps (complete with VW stickers underneath). Fitted them myself in 3hrs.

Can't speak for the NZ Tregs or the 2013s but the T2 V6 TDI would pretty much max out around 210km/h with 6 forward years (sometimes 220km/h, depending if the electronics would give you a little extra). Your two extra gears (8 speed) in the T3 may give you that little extra but that's all that the diesel is capable of as there is only 240hp on tap. I think the old V10 was capable of about the same top speed (240km/h).

But yes, Touaregs do have electronic limiters.

If they can achieve the speed, all German cars are limited to a maximum of 155mph/250 kph.

This was a voluntary agreement by the manufacturers - if I recall aright - to avoid speed limits being imposed on autobahns [tho' a lot of them do now have limits anyway] and other European car manufacturers followed suit.

You may also find your tyres share a similar speed limit.

In the US they must be limited.
I recorded one time getting the 2004 V8 up to 210km/h. Not sure if I was down a hill , had a tail wind, or VW service "upgraded the ECU" during a service call because many other times I brought it to the max and it cut out at 200km/h.

Embarrassed a tricked out Honda Accord just yesterday from about 110 to 175km/h. He was just starting to gain ground on me when cars appeared on the horizon and I laid off the accelerator.
Speaking from feeling rather than data I would say the 2013 TDI doesn't compare well with my 2004 V8 at higher speeds.
2004 V8: 0-MAX feels great strong accelleration all the way to the top.
2013 V6 TDI: 0-110km/h is pretty good, but starts to tail off as the numbers climb.

I'm just waiting for a good (safe) opportunity to max the TDI and haven't had one yet.

Sounds about right, I was trying to move to a lower gear in Tiptronic at high speed and it wouldn't.

T2 V10 is electronically limited to 231kph.
(Feels almost as though it would do it with the van on the back..... lol)

When I first got my 08 TDI I took a trip up your way to The Alice, and on a long flat stretch ( not hard to find ) I could get it up to 230 km/h but no more. Mind you it still felt like it wasn't out of legs so that would kind of make sense regarding a speed limiter. However the tyres I had on made the speedo read about 10% high so the actual would have been more like 210 km/h. Not too bad for a heavy truck. Last quick trip up your way was in my 2001 VX SS (Harrop 9 psi blower) and that did 245 km/h so by those standards the Treg didn't perform too badly.

The 155 speed limit was a gentleman's agreement between about 1999 and 2005 as there were a few high profile accidents on Auto barns as the manufacturers made cars which were excellent on the track and a bit too twitchy on the road with capabilities of 200mph. Then about when SLR's, GT3's, RS4's (A limited number of about 200 were de-restricted) and M5's all became awesome highway cars for the public road driver the speed limit was lifted as owners were heading Italian/Japanese as driving an M5 which hits its limiter like its hit a wall is not fun.

Somehow that number feels unreal. I mean yes, you could probably get up to 240kph, but at only 3500?? That's something you get on a M5, not on a 2,5ton SUV.

I personally achieved once 185kmph, and had reserve for maybe another 5kmph and that's about it. I didn't buy my treg for speed in the first place.

Sure, Treg is not about speed, I always drive moderately (I saw with my own eyes what a rear end blowout can do at high speeds).

This was a downhill run, but from what I recall, it was around 3500, I was even wondering how much more could it do at this rate.

This guy is doing 240 km/h and at 2.06 you see his left needle for a while. It is around 3800.

And this guy is at 270 km/h and at 0.53 his needle is still nowhere near the red zone (I don't quite understand how that's possible :).

Chip tuning, ecu remap, bigger turbos, dowhill ride many possibilities. But on flat surface stock v10 will do 240kph max, with the rpm gauge in red lines

JazzyV10 is right about the revs. 80kph is 1150 rpm so 240kph is near as dammit to 3500rpm leaving a fair few revs spare. Don't know if it is limited or has enough grunt to go harder but 200kph on a reasonable uphill run was still accelerating firmly but I slowed down as couldn't see over the crest. John

Can you tell me where you bought the sidesteps? My dealer quoted $1000 plus coupled with another $150 for a replacement jack as the original will not work with the sidesteps fitted.

Cheers,Tim

Not sure about ROW but U.S. versions are limited to 210 km/hr or 130 MPH.
