T3 Gear Changes - 7P

Have only put about 200kms on the MY15 V8 TDI that I got recently and interestingly noted that it hardly ever uses the first gear. Almost always it starts off in 2nd and upshifts quite smoothly & successively to the 8th once the needle is over 100.

I had driven the 7P, only the V8 several times before but never had my eyes on the gear shift numbers on the MFI.

Is this the same for every other 7P model whether V6 or V8? Can anyone share their experience pls.
Its appears the 1st is quite low and would help with some offroad work

Maybe soon in future there will be no low range in most 4wds....with upto 9 gears available in some models it would give some decent low range ratios making twin boxes redundant.
have a 10 speed box and a diff lock, that would cover most needs.....

Yes you are correct Singh that the 1st gear is hardy used. This was also the same with my V6TDI.
The only time I remember it being used is off roading.

My v6 gas always starts in 1st... I wish it could start in 2nd when I'm running light. I sometime manually put it in 2nd, and the torque is more than enough to smoothly get the car going.

Even my T1 R5 hardly uses 1st gear unless you floor it or the car comes to a dead halt for more than a second. If you then pull away slowly it almost immediately moves over to second gear.

My 2015 V6 seems to change every 10 km/hr under general driving and hits 8 th gear at 80

Interesting, seems the 1st for low range equivalent to some extent.
8th is used only over 100 in the v8

1st and second then big gap to 3rd so 1 and 2 "cheating" low range. But not really if the ratios are checked.

From the datasheet, the gear ratios look just as normal as other cars, but yes, definitely feel there's a "gap" between 2nd and 3rd. I've noticed the first day that the clutch eases in on 3rd gear (takes really long time for the clutch to fully engage from 2nd to 3rd and the engine sounds funny) giving me an impression that the car is trying to make the ride more comfortable since there's a big "gap" between the two gears.
