Last Friday when I got home from a 200 road trip, I got a CEL. The CEL went away, but when I scanned it today, I got:

1 Fault Found
009299 - Diesel Particulate Filter; Differential Sensor

Headed to the Dealer tomorrow afternoon to have them look at it, and would appreciate any help or advice.

I have researched the forums, including Chris Farnaham's (RIP Chris)Warranty thread, and have some questions:

1. Does the DPF just need to go through a regen cycle?
2. Can the regen be done with a Vagcom or VW's Computer?
3. If it is a bad DFP, is it covered as Chris said in a post. It seems pretty clear in my manual that the DPF Filter is covered under the 8 year/80k Federal Emissions Warranty, if it fails a smog check inspection, but smog check inspections are not required where I live.
4. What does it cost to replace the filter?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It happened to me 2 wks ago. Do not have VAGcom but fault was P2463. Soot accumulation was 51g and emergency regeneration was performed by the dealer using scan tool and reducing soot acc to 12G. I don't have ext warranty so no answer for other questions.

Thanks for the reply. How many miles do you have on it. Mine is right at 52k. Did the dealer cover the regen cost?

The problem may just be the differential pressure sensor. There was a recall and replacement for that part about a year ago. Use the SEARCH function to find the thread in the diesel section.

Thanks, found the recall tread!

I just had my DPF go bad, and my dealer told me that it would have been covered under the emissions control system warranty, but I was at 84k miles. We do not do emissions checks where I live, so worst case is your replacement would be covered, based on what my dealer told me.

Went to the Dealer today, they scanned it and said "we need to start with the Differential Pressure Sensor at the DPF". I showed them the Service Bulletin/Recall Code 23M1, and they said the recall (the software update, Differential Pressure Sensor replacement) was performed on my Touareg by the previous Owner in April, 2014, they will only do a recall once, and it is only warrantied for 12MO/12K Miles. Quoted me $ 400+! I spoke with the Service Manager, but they wouldn't budge.

I scheduled an appointment for Friday to fix it, and they were going to call Fidelity to get them to cover it under my Platinum Warranty, but I think Fidelity is going to deny the claim saying it is part of the emissions system.

When I got home I called another Dealer, and they confirmed that the recall would only be done once, and warranted for 12Mo/12k miles.

Then I called VW of America, they were very nice on the phone, saying they would review it, and get back with me tomorrow. It sounded like they may do something because it is so close to the 12 month cutoff, and I have owned three Touaregs, but they would not guarantee anything.

We will see where it goes from here?

Still no determination on my issue from VW of America, and my dealer won't call me back.

A buddy of mine has a 2012 V6TDI, and he recently had the same issue. The Dealer charged him about $ 550 to install the Differential Pressure Sensor Part # 059 906 051 A which is listed on the Emissions Service Action Code 23M1. He is going to call them out on it today, but it appears they charged him $550 for the to perform the recall.

You can buy it for around $70 and install it yourself. I did and the MIL light went off right away.
Is it a difficult install? I am not very good with a wrench.

Not really hard, just a PIA since you have to lean over the engine to reach where its at
Thanks, but I don't have to do it now.

My Fidelity Warranty agreed has to pay for it, which is shocking since the Warranty specifically excludes the Exhaust System, and VW is reimbursing me for the $100 deductible since the part is only 15 months old. Maybe the fact that I have owned three Touaregs and three Audis over the past 11 years influenced their decision.

It was nice to be reminded in one of the earlier posts in this thread about The Warranty King, Chris Farnham - by all accounts a very decent chap who had no immediate family to mourn his passing after major heart surgery albeit that he was still selling right to the end.

He helped quite a few folk on here .

I8abug is chris Farnham??
