hi, after spending more than 700 $ on my 60.000 Km service, and it was mainly checkups, with no actual repair done, a (Service in 3000 Km) messege came on the screen!!! :(
and after getting help by searching the forums and the web, i finally was able to rest the warning, instead of going to the dealer again.
here is how to rest it:
1- press the milage resetting switch on the cluster while the car is off.
2- turn the key once, so the lights are on, but the car is off ( dont start the car )
3- after you do that, a ( service reset ) messege will come on the screen. simply press the wheel button on your steering wheel to accept.
and thats how i did it. :p
its very simple, and it should be somehow similar to touaregs with different options.
enjoy!

Good post! I'll point out to the North American crowd that our vehicles don't have this feature so this cannot be tested, but this information is probably of use to the rest of world crowd.

This is great when you dont have VagCom. But for those of you who do, you can both reset the service reminder and also choose the interval in terms of miles/km and days. I have a US model with Europe variable extended service interval of 30.000 km or two years. Just have to make sure to use the long interval oil and filter.
The ECU calculates according to driving style so with my driving style I usually change with 20.000km intervals. :)

Where with the vagcom can one change the service interval from the stock interval?
And does it have to be changed at the time of a service (eg, 5K, 10K, 15K etc) or can you update anywhere in between and get the proper message at the new intervals?
Thanks

With the recent versions of VagCom this is pretty easy. Go to 17-Instruments Adaption-10 and change your settings. Full instructions at: Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: VW Service Interval Reminders
Now SRI-reset is a special function that you perform when you have oil-service done. Resets all the counters at once instead of the old version one at a time in specific order. You can even reset before the reminders show up.
The guys at Ross-Tech have really done a great job !

I did a write up on SRIs a while back as I work with Uwe in getting this ID'd. You can set your own service interval, just see my post on it.

We do get a service reminder in the US. When you reset it though, assuming it's not the 3k standard, it will take up to 300 miles for it to show "miles to next service". Have no idea why it takes that long but it could be tied to the ROW and extended service life even though asaik there are no sensors to determine that.

OK,

Tried this on my 04 V10 with no success, no message as others has stated, it was like Dead Horse

However......:)

I played about a bit and found the write up is slightly flawed:

Original in post #1

1- press the milage resetting switch on the cluster while the car is off.
2- turn the key once, so the lights are on, but the car is off ( dont start the car )
3- after you do that, a ( service reset ) messege will come on the screen. simply press the wheel button on your steering wheel to accept.
and thats how i did it.

enjoy!

Modified:

1- press the milage resetting switch on the cluster while the car is off & Don't Let it Go till ALL steps are completed!!!!

2- turn the key once, so the lights are on, but the car is off ( dont start the car )

3- after you do that, a ( service reset ) messege will come on the screen.

4- simply press the wheel button on your steering wheel to accept.
5- you can now let go the "mileage reset"

Hope this is of use to some members \\:D/

This procedure DID NOT WORK in my Aussie '08 TDI, all it did is reset the trip meter to "0".

No need for anything complex

Go to screen tap car

Tap service
Tap reset service interval

All done

Along the same lines ...

BUT, recently finished two very long trips in my '13 T3 VR6 gasser so perhaps those with '11's and forward may have run into this. Current mileage sits at a little over 7,900 so an oil change would be due in about 2,100 miles to reach the magic 10K mark --- but the 'service soon' message is coming up on each restart --- another 2,000 + miles seems like a LOOONG time to keep warning the owner (as well as the ~ 265 day reminder, T-Reg went into service 12/8/12) but perhaps it's because the car 'knows' of my two recent almost 3K trips in less than a month and could 'see' that I would want to know this if I plan another one? I would think a 500 miles or less reminder would be more appropriate but have others run into this?

Now that my long trips are pretty much done for the year and I don't expect to reach anything close to 10K for another 10 or 11 weeks (average about 175 miles a week on work commutes or only 9,100/year) this could get annoying; other than totally resetting the reminder is there a way to 'postpone' it until say the 250 or 500 miles to go mark? I confess I haven't checked the manual yet but if others have already and changed this that would be helpful.

my dealer had trouble with resetting the INSPECTION service interval as well the 60,000 km one. It has to be reset via the computer. Under instruments module 17, adaptations, then the distance traveled since last inspection service needs to be manually input to 0. After this is done , you need to reset the service now indicator by hitting the button in the nav under service. My dealer took 3 hours trying to figure it out without success, and in the end I did it myself with my Vag com in about 3 minutes.

I had this going on in a used 2007 Treg that I picked up in Feb. Got to resolve it in the 17 instrument adaptions. Found that the last service reset was over 2665 days prior - in other words, it was never done and none of the prior owners or servicer's ever reset it, or didn't know how. Other than that, it is a pretty good running VR6 with only 48K miles.
