A small group of Touareg offroad regulars got together this past weekend for some good trails in the Moab Utah region.

Trails – Fins and Things, Seven Mile Rim, and Dome Plateau.

Vehicles - Four Touaregs, all with air lifts, center lock. Most with 32" BFG's and some with rear lockers. I have the Gray Touareg.

The two buttes are the Merrimac and Monitor, named after the two civil war ironclad warships, found at the end of 7R.

The mesa overlook shots toward the end are of Professor Valley 25 miles northeast of Moab on the Dome Plateau trail.

Arches include Uranium Arch and La Boca Arch, in that order.

There is some video by the others around.

I posted a number of Fins and Things video on YouTube last year. Check out User "Arkarch" for those - including Kenny's Climb... here it is.

BTW, many of these videos were shot by VegasMatt.

Major jealousy going on here! Looked like fun. Though a Moab rally would be great, I can see how a smaller group on these trails would be much easier to manage.

thanks for sharing,

Garth

Definitely would want smaller groups. There are many more obstacles to puzzle over in Moab and many take time to work. In many cases we have to evaluate the obstacle in both directions because we may need to turn around or the trail is an out and back. Some obstacles can take up to an hour to work for just a few vehicles, once we have reviewed the line and spotted everyone through. It is not unusual for us to be out for 10 hours. Probably would have to split a large group over different trails.

Yes, we apparently had some missed communication in the regular group of close friends.

The intent of posting the pix here is to show Touaregs in action - taking on the celebrated trails known in the 4x4 world. Every Touareg is capable of doing these trails - Hells Revenge was done in a steel with stock tires a few years ago! Certainly we are taking more liberties with all-air expeditions. But even then, we're not going to do every trail or every obstacle in a trail - but we'll have fun exploring them.

By far, the best way to get into our action is the come out for the Colorado Rally. It is generally held in the July-August timeframe.

Good stuff Karl, Thanks for sharing! Maybe one day I'll work in a trip to Moab. Hope to see you at next year's CO rally too.

You have some great shots too, Bill. Liked the 2 vids especially. They got my 3-yr old to say 'we gotta go there.' :p

Ah. I missed the videos. Gotta go into the album to see them :)

Comment on the first vid - that Touareg did get up the obstacle shortly backing up a foot to get a start/bump across the sand/rock barrier.

I love the BFG's, anybody have experience in a size that fits without having the air suspension? I have an 08 V6, no air suspension.
The BFG AT KO 265/70/17's seen in the photos will fit a Steel V6 or V8.

It has been done on steel before, but you really have to watch your lines when doing certain obsticals. On the 19" part, not sure I would try it, but with that said we had a V8 from the VW headquarters one year at the Rally on 19" street tires. We lost a tire on that also. You would be better off with 18" or even better 17" so you can get a taller sidewall tire.

Great pics boys! Gotta love A/T's.........they just make the Treg a different beast. Some of that geography is similar to our outback. Maybe string these pics together and upload to youtube?

Nice Videos....I havent seen a Treg with the T-shaped lightning rods on it
Hah. The funny thing about the Touareg racks and the Rockymounts carriers is that they are almost imperceptibly rotated outwards by a small degree due to the curvature of the cross-bars. This is not evident until the bikes are on there: they look they're leaning off the car.

I've been stopped by people leaving campgrounds yelling, "Your bikes are falling off!!"
