Trim Piece??? Do you mean the rubber hitch receiver plug that the car wash always manages to remove if I've forgotten to?

 

No kidding, I wish they sold those things in 6-packs.

 

No, not the rubber plug.
When the dealership installs a hitch they evidently throw away the cover for the opening in the "bumper," leaving a fairly large open area around the hitch and trailer plug. I found a Trailer Hitch Template posted on the Vortex which I'll eventually have time to manufacture, but was hoping some enterprising Tregger has some ready made for sale.

 

I would buy one to if you can find someone who will sell them.

 

A while back some dumb kid tapped us in the rear and bent a tailpipe and scuffed up the lower bumper cover and tow hook cover. We file an insurance claim for the repair. The body shop ordered the hook cover, lower rear bumper cover and the hitch cover.

We had a factory hitch, so no cover was needed but it was given to us anyways. I used that same pattern Laurence is talking about to make the appropriate cuts and get it installed. It does look a lot nicer. I was able to stretch it over the hitch and safety hook loops (which seemed virtually impossible to do).

Long story short... you can order it from VW.

 

I also used that template and cut it out using a dremel tool. Suggestion, if using a dremel, move it away from the plastic if you sneeze. Fortunately, the "extra knick" in the plastic isn't all that bad!!!!

Once complete, it really does finish off that back bumper (hitch installed) nicely.

Wow! at $131.15 list I only ordered one. After I do the cuts, perhaps I'll see what it would cost to have one of the many injection molders here on the border make some.

 

Did you order that from the dealer ? 1stvwparts lists it for $51.12 for the cover and $1.26 for the pin that secure the cover. I have ordered from them several times and they have fair shipping rates and are reliable.

 

Keep us posted! I assume you would have it molded in black??

Darnit! How do you find parts on the 1stvw site? All I see is their accessories on the homepage. Yes, I need the black, although I wonder if that's what I ordered as the part # had changed from 7L6-807-087-L-B41 to 7L6-807-087-L-9B9 and I don't think you can get the black lower bumper anymore.

 

Call you dealer to see if they have any of those left over from other hitch jobs. Many times the dealer with just give it too you because they don't want to keep it.

Go to their home page, click oem parts catalog, do a search by body parts catalog, type in the year of your touareg, go to rear bumper and components, listed as cap (item #8 and pin (item #9)...if you click on view illustration, you will show you a diagram of all the rear bumper components....

 

A search of 7L6807087LB41 on 1st vw parts shows rear bumper cover for $51.12. The MSRP is listed at $69.83.
