I've only had to refuel my T3 TDI a few times since purchasing it last Fall. That's the good news!

But what's annoying is that the MFD (Multi Function Display) resets itself automatically when refueling. So, when I get back in the VW to record my fuel mileage in my book (something I have done on all my other cars for decades) the info is GONE! It zeros out. AGHHHHHHH! :-x

Close inspection of the manual reveals this to be the way it was intended. So I will have to change my ways and record the mileage FIRST. I can live with that, I guess.

Anyway, does anyone know HOW this works? What computer gizmo signals the MFD to reset? Opening the fuel hatch? Sensors that say new fuel is being added? What?

If I can't change it I at least want to understand it.

Thanks in advance!

I reset the trip odometer (little button at lower left of the speedo) after every tank. Would this help?

I do that as well.

For years I have recorded date, gas mileage, odometer readings and a few other notes every time I fill up. It's sort of a running diary of not only the car data but also the circumstances. "Going to get a new puppy", "Heading to Disneyland", "Getting my wife flowers", etc. Kind of fun to read as the years go by. ;)

I am so used to writing in my book as I wait for the tank to fill. Now I have to change the order of things.

What's that saying about Teaching Old Dogs?

You could use the long term gauge (at the expense of your long term data) to track it instead, it doesn't reset until you tell it to or it rolls over.

This frustrated me at first too, but I changed the setting in Fuelly to track by odometer miles and learned to accept the design.

Should be easy enough to test what resets it.

Psh. Who uses books anymore?? It's all about Fuelly!! :D
LOL! And I write in the book with a feathered quill.

I hear ya! I actually created a Fuelly account (Didn't know about it before this forum) and it never worked right for me. I got frustrated with the iPhone 5 app integration issues (that at least I was having) and ditched it. Maybe I should try again.

On the T2 there are 3 options -1. track data since start 2. track data since last refuel and 3. track long term data (tracks forever till you reset).

Are those options not available on the T3 menu?

Looks like since 'Start,' 'Last Refuel' and 'Long Term.'

Yes....exactly. My 2012 T3 has those options as I see someone else posted above too.

BradB....your in luck! You won't need to change your ways....just your settings :)

The universe is back in order...although I am confused as to why the Hybrid doesn't have this view?

just register with fuelly and create a shortcut on your smart phone.

Punch in the details every fill up and bob's your uncle.

Been doing it for a while now.

I think I was misunderstood, hybrids do have all of the above views/screens. What I meant to say is mine doesn't zero out after refueling, as fincher noted a "00" button must be pressed to reset the trip odometer.
Only Display Since Refuel resets automatically when you refuel.

I thought the other trip odometer was linked to Long Term.

You can also hold down the middle button on the steering controls to reset each of the three individually as well.

Unless you have a hybrid (or enable the hybrid menu) this information is only accessible to the rest of us in the MFD. Nice feature of the Hybrid to see it on the touch screen.
