Hi all. On my commutes (mostly to and from work) I often set my cruise control to 55 mph or 60 mph (sometimes 65). Sometimes if there is traffic or I get a red light, I slow down. Often it happens that by the time I slow down to 40-45mph the light turns green or the traffic clears up and it is safe to resume to higher speed. But here is the issue- When I press the RESUME button, the 4.2L V8 in my 2004 drops a gear and aggressively accelerates up to the higher speed, which is ok sometimes.
But I would rather have the truck gain speed more comfortably. And hence my question- Is it possible to tweak the cruise-control settings, via Vag-Com, so that the truck resumes to higher speed at a slower pace? If yes, how? What measuring blocks to I have to access and what is the coding?

I'm not aware of a way to do that in VCDS. But one way to force it manually is to shift your transmission into manual mode. That will force it to hold the gear you're currently in. Then hit Resume on your cruise and you should accelerate a little slower. Or at least without downshifting.

But you're probably better off just lightly accelerating with your gas pedal and then hitting Resume when you get close to your target speed.

OTOH, why did you buy a V8 Touareg if you didn't want to acclerate quickly?

In my T2 TDI, when I hit resume, it would upshift to 6th and then accelerate. With the diesel grunt it would go pretty quick. And if I was towing or pushing against the wind or uphill it might hold 5th for a bit then shift to 6th. It almost never downshifted to resume.

Thank you FSJ Guy for the tip to shift to manual (Tiptronic) before hitting resume. I tried it today and the truck resumed to higher target speed firmly yet smoothly. This is exactly what I wanted.

Now that I think about it, this method is better than tweaking the cruise system settings (even if it were possible). If the settings could be changed via VCDS, I would be stuck with those settings unless I changed them again. Now I have two options available at all times- 1) if I am in a hurry, I simply hit Resume, or 2) if I want a more relaxed ride, I simply shift the handle to manual and then hit Resume.

Slowing down I just hit "-" for 10k/h reduction per hit and then when I want to increase hit "+" with a little time interval between hits until I set my target speed.

doesn't the option in acc for comfort sport or normal help? seems like you could be in sport mode?

**oops sorry missed that you were referring to T1....T3/T4 they now have this option
