GPS Freezing

I just bought a 2006 Touareg. It did not have a GPS unit installed.

I found a used GPS unit from a 2005 Touareg on Ebay. Bought it. Installed it. Everything works. But....

1) The GPS screen freezes after 30 seconds. When I tap the screen, it takes me to one of its menus. I tap "Cancel" and it returns me to the screen that was frozen. Magically, the screen works again for about 30-45 seconds, then freezes. I keep repeating these steps to make it work, but need to know how to keep it from freezing....

2) I bought new Map disks and am waiting for their arrival. Will this help?

3) Do I need the twin FAKRA connectors? The GPS unit I installed only had (1) antenna connection. Everything works, but the sound quality is not as good as the factory installed radio.

Yes you need both antennas for the radio...

The freezing isn't normal, so perhaps the unit is not functioning correctly.

Isn't there a separate GPS antenna also?

there are 2 antenna inputs and a separate nav antenna input (3 total) all need to be hooked up. all have a unique connector so mixing them up is impossible

A couple of years since I was in the dashboard, but you should find a white and beige connector (these two are the diveristy antenna connections) and then the blue connection is for the GPS ant.
