My thoughts as well. With the proper paper templates, a good sheet metal fabricator could make some shields for cheap-ish.

I applaud Grifnqest's efforts and his desire to tinker with his Touareg and his fabrication skills but the stock twin air intake with the paper air filters provides more than enough air for the V8 to breathe. The stock boxes are positioned to allow cool air to enter the intake so I doubt there is any gain to be had with this modification.

All due respect, but can you provide any proof either way that it won't improve anything at all (specific to the Touareg)? What about throttle response? It doesn't have to be about numbers all the time. I've had several vehicles that have "more than enough air" & an aftermarket/home brew intake has always made the engine feel more responsive, if nothing else.

As far as Perry01's comments, I hear you on that. I agree that the Germans spend all kinds of time perfecting their work. I have no doubt that the original boxes, with OEM filters, are just fine.

But, just like anything else, I think I lot of us like to tinker, as you say. Some of us spend stupid money on things that really don't make that much of a difference. But, for me, it's more of the uniqueness of the work.

On my Audi's, there are a ton of different companies to choose from to make some performance modifications to the vehicles. When you spends boat loads of money on these parts and you get them, you realize "Hey, I coulda' made that myself."

For the Touareg, there really aren't a lot of choices out there, if we want to modify or play with the OEM setups. So we kinda have to steal ideas from other platforms, like the Cayenne, to have a lil fun.

Most people, as you can see, are more interested in the sounds of the setup, than what kind of performance gains there are. So, for some its just a sensory response that they don't mind spending their money on.

Anyway, continue to keep the thread alive. Keep letting Sam @ Evoms know you want some exploration in the Touareg platform. Just like other companies, like JHM and Evoms, if there is demand, they will look into it and see if they can crank something out.

For sure. I totally understand. But for what it's worth, the pieces I ordered from siliconeintakes.com were top notch.

I was very impressed with the quality of the silicone hoses, the t-bolt clamps, as well as the stainless joiners.

Their website isn't very fancy. But the products are great!

I know they have sold at least one "partial" kit. They guy that bought the EVOMS hoses from me, since I couldn't use them, ordered some replacement parts. He then tried to flip them as a "new" unused EVOMS kit. When I called him out on it, he pulled the auction down.

To my knowledge, they haven't spent any time trying to get something going. It's more of a case by case basis that they would sell certain parts, to help people make their own setups.

But, by all means, if you hear otherwise from anyone at EVOMS... let us know how they are coming along.

This was the case with my 2004 V8. I had straight bypass pipes installed and it was too loud. I had my local exhaust shop install 18" resonators inline on both sides and it made a huge improvement while keeping good airflow. That is another reason why I decided on resonated bypass pipes on my V8 FSI. .

do you have any video on it before you put the resonators back in?

First - Thank you for the detailed information on this MOD. As a result and perhaps years later I contacted Sam today (5/14/18) and I "may" have SOME GREAT NEWS!

Sam was quoting the cost for the shields and filter when he checked stock in the warehouse they found hoses for the Touareg - that essentially means they may have the whole setup which after I test install may go into production. So standby ... give me 3-4 weeks and I'll update this post.

Even though I sold my Touareg last year, I still check in from time to time. I'm glad Sam is digging through the crates for you. He is only 15min from my house. So if you need anything first hand, just let me know. I can zip down there and look into it.

He's quite the avid Audi AAN builder too. So he's helped a lot with my URS6 that I got last year.

What a story ... took the Touareg in for Emissions Test and fault code led to manifold inspection ... now pay attention - I had just bought those Gruven manifold levers for kicks and then the tech tells me the intake flaps are seized - he never mentions both levers are also broken - so ... since this is becoming an epic prophecy I decided to go ahead and get the cold air intake setup ahead of schedule ... and so many thanks to Grifnsqest for guiding the way.

Now that Sam was willing to send mock-up hoses to confirm the config on the Touareg was purely "Godly" !!

So ... this old man is off and down the road a piece but very fortunately and also unfortunate I won't be able to attest to the cold air intake improvement because running with the intake runners unfrozen will seriously wake the engine up at low-idle take-off and 5000RPM - together I should be in relative heaven.

If you have a 4.2 check those levers there may be several horses waiting for you!!!

The cold air intake for the Cayenne arrived and is almost identical to the setup Grifnsqest received - the only difference are the 90 degree elbows and a missing cutout in one of the heat shields. I plan to install the setup this week after the manifold flaps are hopefully freed up and new levers installed. It's starting to feel like Christmas!

I don't think you are missing any cutouts. The one with the extra hole is for the passenger side. That's for the 2ndary injection pump filter. No need for it on the driver's side.

The Drivers side is missing the small edge cutout I see on yours - it might be for the power steering/brake line or something (I don't have the car to look). I also ordered the reducers, joiners and T-bolts from Siliconeintakes.com. The supplied elbow has a 3" outlet so I downsized everything a bit for the non-FSI motor.

Completed the EVOMS Cayenne V-Flow intake on a 2004 Touareg, 4.2, non-FSI this weekend. The fitment is perfect and there's no need to replace the hoses from the MAF to the Y-tube unless you need aesthetics. I bought more stuff than I needed from Silicone Intakes - size your hoses for 2.75" and you should be good.

The results:

As I mentioned earlier my intake flaps were seized and the manifold levers broken - this has all been repaired along with the replacement of plugs and 2 MAF's. The acceleration, torque and response is smooth like glass however I expected more "cow-bell" (head-snap) based on the reports from others who have freed their intake flaps. In truth this car will never be a race car as the gearing, weight, throttle/shift response and horsepower are calibrated for something quite different - it is however very spirited, dead-on and rock solid.


Do yourself a favor - if you've done the exhaust treat yourself to the EVOMS kit it's totally worth it for the sound alone -- did I mention the sound? I almost want to take the engine covers and shrouds off because the setup is "sweet" but I suspect the covers help channel hot air.

I will say this... I will now pursue Trans remapping, Sprint booster and possible valve body mods as the Touareg is enough to get you into trouble - you've got enough power to get in tight but not enough control to respond by braking with a downshift thus you cannot follow tight as the freakin car will not slow down fast enough and I'm not spending 10K for brakes.

The car easily needs another 50HP to be able to pull through 5th like 4th and so on ... the trans (Sport Mode downshift) needs to grab at a higher RPM with a 5K RPM shift-point instead of 6K and the shifter itself needs a rework so untimely downshifts (hand resting on shifter waiting for RPM's to drop for downshift) don't occur. By the time the trans engages in the downshift it's far too late to be useful. There's really no torque between 5K-6K RPM.

But - make no mistake ... the Touareg gets busy ... I'm afraid to push it because I know she needs a long runway ... she's built for the road and classy competition ... don't ever get cocky at high speed or drill-down into your opponents bumper ... this will end the tour!

Yes! - lowered with Porsche suspension and spacers the beast handles like my 1971 TransAm - on train tracks - it makes you want more engine to go with that suspension!

Maybe Sam will make a run of intakes for the Touaregs.

Ok - so those plastic engine covers are history now and as you can see in the pic the hoses from EVOMS are an exact replacement and require no modification - HUGE SUCCESS!


Drove the car for the first time yesterday to the shore and all I can say is... the induction, Unitronic tune and trans remap (4200) together are most impressive - refining the torque and power to very respectable levels - I also feel there is more ... as I got on it I found a flat spot or surge somewhere in the 4000 - 5000 RPM range - very minor but noticeable when all of a sudden there's more power left and other times the torque just fades away as expected around 5000 RPM - I prefer the latter of course.I'm thinking... this motor is making the most power it ever will and feeling feather light and agile on the highway has made it a joy to fly!
