I was just informed that we need to replace the Control Module and Harnesses for our '05 Touareg (V6 84,000 miles) at a cost of $14,000. It appears the wiring harness in transmission was leaking up the central wiring into the transmission control module inside the vehicle.

We have regularly serviced this vehicle at the VW dealership we purchased it from.

Has anyone heard of this happening before? Does a Control Module cost $11,000 for the part? Any thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you

I would say plenty wrecked touaregs where one could salvage one for s fraction of the cost. Find an good independent shop that specializes in VW and ask them.

$14,000 would more than buy you a brand new gearbox!

Someone else reported a problem with the wiring inside the gearbox.

I'll see if I can find the thread.

EDITED: Actually I won't because I see the OP made just this one post two weeks ago and never bothered to come back!

Thanks for the feedback. After discussing the situation further with the dealer, they were able to replace the module and harness for a more reasonable price. It appears the control module was the culprit for the loud thumps while accelerating. Others have voiced this issue.

Nope- I can tell you that it happens. Just happened to mine 3 weeks ago. Looking for solutions.
