Any chance you could get them to provide any insight around the whole "Don't use a wd hitch" blurb that they have in the manual for the 2011?

I got an answer today from VW... but I don't think it's going to be much more than you've already read.


VW says "The vehicle was not designed for these type (weight distribution) of hitechs and that the hit attachment can fail, causing the trailer to tear loose from the vehicle."

VW continues --- "Never install a weight distributing or load equalizing trailer hitch on the vehicle. The Touareg is not designed for this kind of hitch.

Just wish they'd bring in an Italian consultant to show VW what a color palette is... 8 years and 3 versions later and we still only have 4 colors... I want my Treg in Ferrari RED with tan interior or Scuderia yellow with white leather or 'Cuda lime with black interior or...

Right now... highway driving (at or slight above speed limit ) is ranking right around 30mpg ---- very impressive.

In mixed driving, my MFI reads 25.5 mpg and calculated (real mpg) is 24.7 mpg.

Just got my 2011 TDI Lux on Monday. Only getting 15.9 right now, but I don't do much highway driving during the week. Have some longer trips this Spring/Summer so I'm sure I'll see better mileage then.

The Touareg-TDI arrived this morning... right to the front door. It's a beauty.

Just got my 2011 Lux Black/Black on Monday - looks the same as the picture except for the rims. Mine has 19" Everest's I think. Beautiful sled. And the technology is crazy. The NAV and 'Infotainment' systems are very well integrated and the giant screen is great.

The ONLY gripe is that VW has the manu-shift order wrong - it should be forward to downshift and backward to upshift (a la BMW.) But that's a pretty small gripe. The 8-speed does a great job by itself when in sport mode.

Car is amazing. Looking forward to your review posts.
