I have an 08 3.0 L TDI, is it worthwhile to chip it, I tow a 3 tonne caravan and currently use 17 litres to the hundred kilometers consumption while towing on average. Will I get better consumption and performance but more importantly will it put more stress on the engine.

Remapping can be done by a skilled re-mapper to give you more power, or better mpg or a bit of both.

However, it usually then gets offset by the fact that you can't resist using the power and therefore **** up the mpg!

I did this to my 2010 3.0 TDI using Unitronic. Noticeable power increase to 402tq to all four wheels on a dyno. :)

Mileage is ok, but limited by my right foot. ;)

Just like I said . . .

I do have a Steinbauer Power module, had it for quite some time but my experience with it is very limited as I only had it on the vehicle for less than one thousand kms as I decided to remove it whilst my extended warranty cover was current.

My initial impression was that the acceleration felt much "smoother" right through the rev band although I was a little disappointed insofar that I really didn't notice much of a power increase and consumption was up marginally.
I think if anyone purchased the unit purely on the expectation of a vast power/torque increase they would be disappointed.

I will refit the module today as I am preparing to leave on a 5K km outback trip towing a camper trailer (1500kgs) next week so will be in a much better position to give you an evaluation along the way.
Will post an update soon.

Update after checking online, I have purchased a module from the UK called chip express it is a plug and play unit that gives in the minimum setting 210kw and 560nm torque and is incrementally adjustable to 265kw and 640nm. 14 day money back guarantee and 3 year fix or replace warrantee

I have to check did you have fat fingers when you typed in max 265kw.
If that is correct I would be very sceptical of that claim.
I cannot find that power claim on their site?

It does work:rolleyes:!

Took the treg to the Aussie Steinbauer importer to have the unit checked out, dyno figures attached (note these are numbers at the wheels not flywheel).
It does appear to make a little difference.

Sorry about the delay in updating but the chip express chip is fantastic it has smoothed out acceleration and when towing my 3 tonne caravan I get between 15 - 17 litres per 100km depending on conditions etc. I have settled on 220kw and 650nm as the optimum all round setting. As Nooby said it is controlled by the right foot though. I just love the torque for instant get up and go..
