Is there is a VW OBDII scanner I can use just to check the check engine light code and reset it? Other than the vagcom.

Like Ziggy is talking about here: LINK

I have another check engine light. Quite a few in the past, associated with coil packs going bad and an O2 sensor. All have been replaced.

I punched the gas getting on the freeway last week and the Check Engine light appeared. And hasn't gone off since. I have since driven about 4 hrs and it wont' clear. Just remains solid.

I'm tired of taking it to the dealer and would much rather reset it once and make sure it is a reoccurring issue first. I know there is the fancy vagcom software but I don't want to spend that much this late in the game.

Anyone try one of these? AMAZON

Thanks

It would be interesting to know its limitations. Maybe it's not for everyone in every sitiuation, but IMO there is no alternative for near the price that will do what VCDS does. We have three VWs and it has paid for itself multiple times over. We've only had our TDI Treg 6 mos and it would've paid for itself already (had I not already owned VCDS). I performed multiple scans and gave the data to the dealer to help track down an intermittent limp mode issue. Frankly, from looking at the service history I believe that problem is why the original owner got tired of the problems and traded it in the first place. Good for me since it had low miles. I'm not naive enough to believe I won't ever need it again for the Treg. If one plans to do hardly any work themselves on a VW, I believe VCDS is a sound investment. Good luck in solving your issue.

$250 plus the manual I believe. I really should have bought it from the start.

But,

1. We don't have a single windows computer in our house. And have to buy Windows XP and Parallels ($200)

2. I don't know how much longer I will keep this VW. And don't plan to ever own a VW after the reliability issues with this one.

He's referring to an ELM 327 OBD2 to Bluetooth adaptor, that allows you to run the Torque Pro application on your Android phone, for around $13 and $5 each, total, $18.

I've read a ton of negative reviews of the (ELM 327 OBD2) due to connectivity issues. Specifically bluetooth. That is why I opted for the wired scanner.

But, if anyone has experience using ELM327 with an Iphone and Touareg, will you let us know how it works? Or if you end up getting one, report back on it's use. Thanks!

I've read a ton of negative reviews on Apple too, their stock value reflects the situation. Buy an Android....I've had no problems with my Elm 327 or my Samsung Galaxy S2 running ICS with my ELM 327. YMMV. I've owned VCDS also, since 2005, still the best there is out there.

That's why I ordered the new one with wifi. Supposedly it had much better connectivity and is faster. I ordered one for the iPhone yesterday, I'll report back when I get it.

FYI - I ordered this, and upon arrival today tried it on my 2012 TDI and it would not connect. Tried several times but still got a connection failure. Doesn't appear to support this model year, unless the one I got is malfunctioning.

Anyone else use it on a 2011+ TDI?
I received the elm327 last week and works fine, Use it with my iPhone. Clears codes and gives a lot of information.

What software do you use with it in the Iphone?
