Decided to give the Treg a Porsche/Ferrari look to go with the Brembo calipers. Alas, contrary to Porsche and the prancing horse, Brembo did not stamp it's logo on the face... will have to look for decals...

Thanx!

Depending on condition of calipers you can count on up to 4 coats with 25 minutes in between coats. Then 2 hour wait prior to installing tire and 24 hours until you can drive it.

Do use special caliper paint as it's heat resistant, so don't use any old spray paint.

So it takes a wee bit of patience... but I think it looks good.

check out this website, I used the Brembo stencil they sale, and painted it on... Rennline.com if you get a decal it will probably fall off after a few washes...

Stephen, what size did you get? Damn wish I had seen that before I put the tires back on

NorthVan, I got special caliper paint from Napa, comes as a kit with masking tape, caliper cleaner, brush and color.

But it needs the logo...

I used the 3 inch size on the front calipers and decided not to use a stencil on the rear...

NorthVan, the color kit is from Dupli-Color and it's the ceramic caliper paint kit and as I said you can find it at NAPA.

I'm ordering the stencil from Rennline but I couldn't find white caliper paint so I got engine paint from Dupli-Color. Since it can withstand up to 500 degrees it should do the job.

I did this and used the hi-temp caliper stickers off of e-bay. They have held up very well for the past 6 months with no sign of peeling or fading.

i just felt because the rear calipers are a bit smaller it would look best without, just my opinion...

Here's the scoop from Rennsport. The stencils are one time use. They have a low adhesion and are placed on the caliper. Mask the area around and spray paint. When dry, remove the stencil and throw away. A kit has two stencils for fronts or backs. If you want to have both you'll need two kits.

Shipping. They claim that (as in my case) the 27 dollar shipping for a $10 or $20 item(s) would have been corrected and just sent in a plain envelope for 50 cents. I asked to write that on their web site as no one is going to pay 27 bucks for a ten dollar item to ship UPS to Hawaii, Alaska or bongobongoland. So if you live in these places, call and ask for the envelope shipping method.

Lastly, make sure you specify Brembo as the other option if you're not careful is Porsche logo.

Engineer, I'll see how mine fare as I did the same method as you... If they did fail, call in the warranty if you used the special caliper paint.

Engineer, and anyone thinking about painting their calipers in the future, take a look at G2 caliper paint (G2 Brake Caliper Paint Systems). It's a two part epoxy and I've heard nothing but good things about it's durability, appearance, and overall quality. Duplicolor seems to have pretty good customer satisfaction as well, but it's definitely not going to be as resilient. I'm planning on doing mine with G2, I just need to decide on color and stencils vs. stickers. I don't think red would look good on mine, so I'm probably going silver with black logos or match the calipers to the body color w/black logos.

There's never enough time to do it right, but always enough to do it over

Thanx Voodoo, if mine fails, I'll keep that in mind. Mind you Rennsport does recommend Dupli-Color for their stencils...

I personally have known multiple people who have used Duplicolor (on cars and bikes) with no long term complaints, and it seems to have a good reputation online as well. There are several threads here on the subject of caliper painting, the majority have used Duplicolor and been satisfied with it. Engineer and a couple others have been exceptions. If I were painting the calipers on my 748 or A4, I would use Duplicolor without hesitation. It's readily available, a fraction of the cost, and based on appearance alone I can't tell them apart. For the Touareg, I feel it mostly depends on the level of offroad use of each individual vehicle. I do wheel a bit, so I'm willing to pay a bit more and go through some additional prep for the extra insurance.

Just a thought here, EnginEer, did you use the spray version of the Dupli-Color or the one you apply with a brush? I did the latter to have more control on the number of coats and limit over spray.

LOL, Franken that "letter" was a prank done for I think April Fools day. ;)

As a matter of fact VW (and Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Brembo, etc) offers painted calipers from the factory. Check the Touareg R-50 for example and the Golf R-32 models. I have not heard of any issues with paint causing heat build up in a caliper for street cars.
