Today, I was towing my 2101 Walkaround Seaswirl striper up the 15 north from fontana to silverwood lake with my 07' 3.6 Touareg in 102 degree weather. I have towed my boat to oxnard channel islands and back about 20 times since January. My egg only has 7,000 miles on it. To my surprise, after I take the silverwood lake exit, my transmission starts making really loud vibrating noises. It sounds like the transmission is banging against the car. At this time I dont know what the problem is. I towed my boat to the lake, rode around and swam all day with 12 beers to myself. Then I towed the boat back to the house all the time while the tranny is making these really loud banging noises. Might I add I am only driving about 20 - 25 miles per hour all the way home.Surely without a doubt I'm home safe but a little pissed that my Egg behaved this way today. Tomorrow I will find out what the problem is. Even though I am a bit upset about this, my t-regg has taken me and the 5,600 pound Seaswirl back and forth to oxnard from fontana plenty of times.

Has anyone else faced this problem?

Haven't had the problem and about 1/2 of the mileage on my Touareg has been with a travel trailer in tow....but curious to know why you would keep driving if it was making all those loud noises?

Because I wasn't going to let this ruin my day. I was determined to get to my destination. Plus, I can give a damn if the tranny blows, it's under warranty. But it really surpirsed me. I had an 05 I trade in at 32K and I towed with that as well. These things happen, it's a machine and bound to break sooner or later.

probably some defect...at least it didn't leave you stranded :)

I think I am more concerned that you would drive after 12 beers!
Unless it's Coors Light: "The brew that makes drinking all day possible"

Although, towing a trailer after 12 of anything is probably not the greatest idea in my mind.

In any regard, let us know what happens with the transmission. I'd be interested to hear what's up.

If it is Coors Light from UT he is ok in that you would have to drink a case of that to get even a remote buzz!!

Problem was found the same day i turn the car in for serivce. It took the teck one hour to replace it. The drive shaft cuppler gave away. Tech told me it's a common problem and it even happens without towing anything. I'm dissapointed that an SUV this solid has a weak cuppler for the drive shaft.

Common problem? You're the first one I've heard about, assuming you mean "driveshaft coupler" - not sure what a cuppler is. :)

Maybe this is the same as the "driveshaft carrier bearing" that has reared its head a number of times on here. Although, I don't think any of the issues with that have happened as suddenly as MrBash's did.

Maybe carrier bearing=coupler?
