As the title says.
I'm building a SWB patrol and putting the V10 TDI engine in it. So I'll probably post a few updates on here.
Also making a YouTube thing about it, which you can see the first episode of here:

It won't be really started until next year, so I'll use the Touareg as a daily in the meantime.
I'm also riding a motorbike from Australia to England (hence the project delay), so it'll start once I get back.
See that trip here:

Anyway, that's about it for now. Toodaloo

Why the touareg V10 into a Nissan? Why not a SWB Pajero given the wheelie penchant you have

Depends on the type of driving you do I guess.
For me, a stock touareg is just not good enough. IFS/IRS, no front locker etc.
I know I'm probably offending people in a group that loves the things, but the facts are they're not all that good offroad.

I've got my 76 series set up for some ridiculous offroading and rock crawling, 35 inch tyres etc, and you just can't get the same results without solid axles.

Solid axles vs independent sus and disconnecting swaybars, traction control, old vs new....well let's park that never ending discussion and opinions ...each to their own.
Good luck with your efforts, build.

I'm intrigued by the specifications of this build, and while we will all have 'our' different theories of what would/should work etc, the fact that the OP is inviting us to follow and watch his project is pretty cool.

Good luck and lots of wheelies ;)

Indeed. Reminds me of a guy in the VW club I was in years ago that cut a few feet out of his bus (Type 2) so he could do wheelies. He put a sliding ragtop in it and if you were brave enough, you could stand up out of it while said wheelies were occurring.

"I know there are purists who think "my XX can go anywhere your YY can", but no, you can't argue with physics." - I prefer the latter because I owned straight axle 4x4s and now IFS/IRS rig. You can call us purists, call Touareg master of none, and whatever else you want. It doesn't change what we've come to admire.
For most of us, Touareg fulfills everything we need. If I wanted to measure dicks, I'd go for a 40-inch-Dana60's-v8-roll cage-rockhopper.
But I know how to use my tool without bragging about how big it is.

Quoted to clear this up so we can all reference this post as the thread maybe progresses.

There's no dick swinging or "putting down" of your precious metals here. Simply a build, which is a bit unusual, which will hopefully result in a very capable offroad car with an interesting engine.
Less of the sensitivity please, or at least put a rainbow as your avatar so we know what to expect.

Moving on.

The integration of electronics would be the most challenging of undertakings.
Mechanical stuff, with proper fab skills, is not an issue.
If you can somehow override/modify ESP and KESSY, among other systems, you might be able to run it with Touareg ECU/TCM.
I've had (still own the car) a turbo project where I used an AEM Infinity stand-alone ECU after piggyback ECU was deemed not viable to run higher boost and larger injectors.
So it is also possible to use a clean slate ECU to mimic Touareg mapping.

Put aside reasons for why you use VW V10, this project could be a real humdinger.

Cheers...

@MAB Innovation has dropped his latest video onto Youtube of the project.

Every content provider needs a 'catch-line' etc..... MAB I think you've nailed it.

I've had a great day today, watching your content, and frothing over Saving Salvage rebuilding the Audi R8. https://www.youtube.com/@SavingSalvage
@snodrogs - that has been an awesome recommendation ;)

If I'm bridging a BOM gap, I'll take that as a pretty big compliment. They make some awesome stuff.

Just briefly reviving this thread for some insight, as I've not been able to find any clear answers. Brace yourselves...

I want to delete the ABS/traction control/airbags/immobiliser from the ECU... I know there have been a few threads about this, but the general consensus is an argument about why you shouldn't do it (because it's not for a 1991 car). The patrol has brake proportioning valves, so no real issues, but I'd like to keep the speed read from the ABS sensors, as I'm upgrading to GU patrol diffs, which have the hardware.

Airbags isn't much of an issue, as I can just match the resistance values, but a software delete is a neater solution for me.

So... Has anyone experienced any tuning software packages or know anyone with some insight into this that isn't angry or anecdotal?

(Next video is in about 8 hours from now)
