AdBlue gauge

I just filled my AdBlue tank myself for the first time on my 2014 TDI and I am now getting a warning that I am in the last 1500 miles of tank. I have never had any indication of AdBlue tank low level before. (dealer filled tank first two times under warranty) Put about 4 gallons in the tank. I sense the level indicator is stuck but don't want the sensor to go to empty and shut down the engine. After filling I did the proper "leave ignition on for 30 seconds" before starting the engine. Vehicle is still under warranty. I did use a VW AdBlue bottle for the refill but purchased the product at local auto supply shop. Product had the correct ASTM designation. Any thoughts before I go to dealer?

Could be a bad tank level sensor. Last Summer the dealership performed the 20000 mile service on my Touareg and only a couple weeks later I got the countdown warning for 1600 miles.
Verified the AdBlue tank was in fact full. The dealership ended up flashing the ECU. Problem went away but I am concerned that the sensor is still actually bad. If you can get the flash done, it will be cheaper than a tank sensor if you have no warranty.

Similar issue happened with my 2014 TDI:
- on Wednesday week1 I brought the car to 10K maintenance
- on Monday a week after(and about 400 miles driven) I got a warning that in 1600 miles I would need to add AdBlue
- I drove until the allowed distance dropped to 200 miles - we were traveling in Arizona - in Flagstaff I brought the car to Findlay dealership (would very recommend the place)
- guys @ Flagstaff checked and responded that the tank was half empty (I am not sure if 10K maintenance was not properly performed), but still there was no reason for the warning. They added the liquid and reset the sensor. Since then no issues.

There is a reset procedure that should be completed once the AdBlue is filled and before the motor is started. I believe it's just turning the key to the accessory mode and waiting 30 seconds before starting.

If this procedure is not done it may not recognize that fluid has been added.

I don't understand why it wouldn't function like a fuel gauge and more importantly why we can't have a gauge to check the level. Maybe it's more like the washer fluid sensor that is set at a certain level? That would mean the sensor would activate once the AdBlue reached a certain level and that initiates the countdown timer. The washer fluid sensor doesn't need to be reset when filled though...

I just had my 15,000Km inspection done. After 10 days the adblue message came on, refill in 2400Km. I had asked the dealer to fill and reset the adblue on my work order. I know they filled it as I saw the adblue crystals where they spilt some and wiped it up.
I tried the ignition on and wait 30 seconds before starting the car and that didn't help or it did not do the reset. Tried it 3 times and still nothing. Is there another reset option for the 2014 or is the adblue level/sensor stuck?

Just came back from the dealer and they said they forgot to do the reset on the refill and 15,000Km maintenance. The tech apologized for his mistake. I told them I had tried the reset 3 times as per post below and it didn't do a thing. They said it has to be done by the Vagcom. Is this because they locked the do it your self reset so we can't do it? If so it is a good way to get people to go to the dealer more often. Might need to get a vagcom myself or find someone in the area.

They likely are talking about the 10,000 mile oil change light/service light. This has nothing to do with the Adblue fill.

The 10k mile interval change light can be reset through the menus. The 40k service light has to be reset via the Vagcom cable.

Have no idea what everyone is talking about re: reset procedure. In my 09 TDI and my current '13 TDI I'd just dump in a big jug of the stuff (I think its 10L) whenever the adblue warning came up. I'd then just start the vehicle normally. There is no procedure or anything else...same idea as filling windshield washer fluid ie: you fill the damn thing up, the light goes away.

Any reset "procedure" is BS...there is no such thing as a reset. My guess is the dealer didn't fill the adblue tank and they are throwing a line of BS at you to make it sound like they are resourceful and knowledgeable vs. forgetful and wasting your time (latter is the case)

If you filled it up and the warnings has not gone away then there is a failure of some part in the adblue system. Bring it in or hook it up to a VCDS to see what it might be.

As for adding a guage...not sure I care to see it since its only relevant once every 10,000 miles or so. Less is more.
