Hey Everyone. So I finished my install of the CarNaviPlayer kit this morning. I got everything all hooked up, there is power to the control module (both LED's are on) but the backup camera does not activate. I have done a start/stop cycle about 10 times with no luck. Also went for a 15 minute drive - no luck. All of my park distance distance sensors are also not working. If I go into setting on the display and into the park distance warning system menu item - it says "The function is currently not available". Any help would be appreciated guys. I don't have a VagCom by I got a friend who knows someone who does have one - or I could sweet talk by dealer to run a quick scan perhaps.

I took pics of everything step by step for the most part so I am gonna make a step by step instruction document once time permits.

Did you make sure you plugged the Canbus that you discounted on the drives side back into the piggy back? Also did you remove the Grey LDVS from the back of the RNS850 not the other one? Did you plug that one into the controller and take the LVDS from the controller to RNS850 port you discounted?

Can you post a pick of where you plugged the canbus just to verify it was the right port? Thanks. If your not getting even the sonar i would hazard a guess it's either LDVS or Canbus connection.

Hey koop - thanks for the quick reply.

1) I plugged the original OEM canbus harness into the piggy back, and the carnaviplayer harness into the original vw can controller - then the wire lead goes over to the carnavi control module. I used the very bottom CAN port on the VW controller as mentioned in this thread.

2) I did run the grey LVDS cable from the RNS850 to the carnavi control module - then the carnavi LVDS to the back of the RNS850.

I also cut wires 1 and 4 off since they aren't used in the Touareg install. My wire 4 happen to be brown - not red like the pic (pic from carnavi site)

Make sure if you cut the lead 1 that it's not shorting. Canbus connection looks good. I see the LVDS going into the controller in pic 1, but I can see the LVDS leading from controller going to RNS850, could be just angle picture.

Red and Blue line are spliced together right? Make sure E-brake is disengaged as won't activate with it engaged that scared for a few minutes.

If all else fails unplug and replug connections to make sure they are seated correctly, ie: LVDS you tend to hear them click.

I tapes all ends I cut to make sure they didn't ground out on something. I unplugged all connections and re plugged everything in and SUCCESS!!!!!

now maybe today or tomorrow I am gonna make some detailed instructions!!!

Thanks for your help Koop!!! If I were closer i would owe you a few beers!!

I would love illuminated door sills. Where'd ya order them from?

Oh and just getting my brake controller installed today as well - had it in my 2004 so now moving it over since camping season is in sights!!

Have a question. I'm using the Kufatec kit and have completed the connections in the trunk. The exterior lift gate handle is not yet working. I thought it would be since it should have power. Does this function require that the coding be complete also?

Completed installation-awesome

I appreciate the prior comments on the Carnaviplayer Rearview camera, it made installation possible. I purchased the unit after researching the alternatives. Mostly it was a cost issue since the NavTv unit was $1400 for the complete system but it didn't have the grid lines which I wanted. The installation was not a challenge although like others running the cable was a pain. I used a zip tie taped to the camera wire to thread it through the rubber tube on the lift gate. One moment of panic when I put the car in reverse and no image but like others once I turned off the parking brake bingo, a perfect image. Now I just have to remember to look out the window instead of starring at the camera image!

Those of you that installed the camera, do you use it? Now that I have one installed, I find myself using the mirrors when backing up. I rarely look at the camera screen. It's really nice when hooking up a trailer, that's for sure. But other than that...in normal situations, I don't use it. My wife says the same thing. She doesn't use it all in fact.

And in the snow & slush, it gets full of water/salt spray and that's a wrap...it's useless till you get out and wipe it off. Wisconsin uses salt on the roads in winter.

So the main question is, other than being a cool gadget, and a very handy tool when hooking up a trailer, could you live with out one now? Or will you insist on one in all your vehicles going forward? Because we thought we needed one...turns out, we really don't. Neat and cool? Yep...necessity? not so much.

You must be a bit younger than me! I have a hard time turning my head all the way to see clearly out the back window. For me the camera is nice, having said that I have had it for only 24 hours-give me some time before I determine the full utility of it.
