This is such a funny thread. Hasn't anyone tried to replace the v8 down pipes and exhaust? That would yield actual noticeable and useful torque and hp gains. Chipping NA v8 has never really netted much worth talking about. A good shop could most likely adapt a high quality kit like from APR, Milltek, etc which make sweet exhaust systems for the VAG v8 engines.

If one of you really wanted to have some fun I'd love to see an RS6 twin turbo v8 dropped into a Touareg. At least a supercharger has been made for the v8 so far.

Are you taking about headers? I'll have to agree, some top end HP will surely be gained with a nice set of bling headers, but this will have to be a real custom job, as I've yet to see anything on the market other than typical cat back exhaust systems meant for a more sporting sound. Last I checked, neither APR or Milltek made any kind of goodie for the V8 egg.

As a bare start, I did do that dual cat bypass pipe thing, but I've yet to do a new vid on that to compare my previous 7.3 second video run as time constraints from work and family won't allow for any of this craziness, at least for now :(.

If I meant headers, I'd say "headers" ;) Downpipes start after the headers but headers would also help if the oem ones are restrictive.

For my v8 which is not FSI like the rs4 v8, JHM has designed and tested actual headers which replace the oem headers and down pipes. They also have other cool bits for my v8 which may give you some ideas.

Indeed! ;) I posted up some of their vids in this thread. http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f64/anyone-with-t-regs-on-nitrous-45789.html . They don't seem to have anything for the Touareg in their catalogue online, but I guess one would have to call them up?

This thread was supposed to be what's the fastest production OEM spec Egg. Not to see who has the fastest!
We are still waiting for the vid from the OP and his friend (V10 versus V8 out on the open highway side to side for top end comparisons along with 0-60), so nothing has been settled yet officially. But in the meantime... ;).

BTW guys....it just occurred to me, but when timing yourselves on those 0-60mph runs, instead of using stop watches, etc, why don't we just use the video timer counter on our respective video players for some consistency? In fact, you can just fast forward to the point where the speedometer needle is just about to move, note the time, and then pause the video right at 60mph, and look at the video player timer readout on the bottom of the screen, then subtract between the two figures!

BTW, that moves my 0-60 time to 7.0 flat if my above procedure holds any merit.

EDIT: Never mind...forget what I wrote, the video player timer doesn't measure tenths of a second.

Hope you guys are doing 2 opposite direction runs to compensate for slight grade and wind changes. I'll try and do a few runs over the next week or two. John

here is a ? for you... i tried to look threw every page but not all the videos and pics would load so here goes....

has anyone gone to the strip? to get a time slip? cuz that would settel alot of this... but this thread is funny to read...

Finally getting around to posting my V10TDI 0-60 video. Not sure how in the world you come up with an accurate 0-60 based on this. The video is 8ish seconds long and it took me between 1-2 seconds from the start of the video to releasing the brakes and stomping on it. The audio didn't seem to work (phone was connected to BT and i think it tried to use the car mic (which wasn't active.) Anyway.. i can try to take another video to capture the sound (not the a V10 sound all that exciting.)

A few notes:
2008 V10TDI, engine is completely stock
This was actually in the rain (I live in Seattle.. everything is in the rain)
Sport mode on the susp and tranny (but i forgot to turn off the A/C)
Alt speedo (digital on MDF) is set to MPH.. so you can see the digital speedo readout.

After trying this i tend to agree with everyone else... a drag strip printout is the only real acurate way to do this (unless you have one of those computers the car mags use.)

Interesting times some of you posted, I have done a few runs in opposite directions in the R50 and come up with fairly consistent times of 6.5 to 7 secs for 0- 100kph (about 62mph), bog standard, 3/4 tank of fuel, in both drive and sport mode for transmission. Factory spec is 6.8 secs. John

It's funny because it's a pissing match with normal yard stick for proof
Its an rough estimate to put to rest some of the bench racing that was going on...by posting a video you get relative proof of how quick something is.

If you're looking for timed dragstrip runs on the same day under identical weather conditions I don't see how we can make that happen...

no im not looking for perfection but a dragstrip is at least a equal playing ground. and weather is not going to destroy your time unless its super hot or super cold... we are looking for avrages right? i know when i lived in WA my treg drove different than in TX so then each state should do there own test and then avrage there times then share it with everyone...

Well, I can somewhat agree with that as far as being more accurate on the perfection level with less room for error is concerned, even though in this thread we are really looking for general consensus, not accurate to the 1/100th. I was only joking and probably being sarcastic in a couple of my posts where I wanted to prove my V8 was at 7 seconds flat and not 7.3 to 60mph

That all said, and going write in line with what you just requested, NickM who does live only 1.5 hours away from me(west), posted 6.3 seconds with his chipped V10, and I posted 7.2 with my chipped V8. I don't think a drag strip with time slip is needed with these two particular models, and back at the time they were posted, was right in context with the OP's title request. I mean, I can argue that his time was really 6.7 and not 6.3 or he can say mine was 7.5 and not 7.2, but at the end of the day, any half to full second difference essentially means he blows you away by at least a car length! As far as time slips are concerned on our respective two models, it would have been a waste of time and day at the track. No point at all as far as I'm concerned.

I think the only time you guys who are mocking these videos can really apply your "perfectionist rule," is when you are comparing a stock V8 to modded V8, a chipped V8 Non-FSI to stock V8 FSI, or maybe even better, a 2009 T2 V6 VR6 gasser versus a T3 V6 TDI with its new 8 speed. However in keeping in check and within how this thread really all started(most of you probably don't even know), no time slips will be needed any time a V10 joins in I'm afraid.

My one and only request. but unfortunately illegal out on the open road, is to see a V8 like mine, race a V10 like Nicks, out on an open road, meaning surpassing the 150km/h mark. I think things MIGHT get interesting there. I will try and arrange something on a closed circuit this summer.
