Battery is done, and it gets even worse when they are cold. It might come back if it warms up outside, but the battery is at the very end of it's useful life. Non Replaceable.... Need new TPMS sensor unit.

And if one goes, the rest are soon to follow...

Is this on a 2012 ? Can't believe the battery would go out that quick.... Should last over 5yrs atleast

Miles driven mean as much as time. 80 - 100k and they start to fail. 100 was always the target life, very hard to meet. Newer batteries are making it happen.

Interesting, i never thought putting miles would impact battery life

As I'm sure you've concluded I think the "--" means it's dead. My '12 tregs are still going, but I currently have a set of rims/tires w/o sensors in them and they read "--" on display. I've seen that come up before on start up, but if they haven't read for a week I think they're done-zoh.

Literally hit 100,000 km's a few days ago (now have 100,300 km's) and my left rear Tpms sensor is not reading ("- -") so it looks like the batteries are coming close to the end of their useful life ... Must be some sort of pre-programmed software to kill the batteries at 100,000 km's haha!

I just listed a set of (4) sensors in the classifieds...expensive little buggers...PM me if intereste. The 2016 doesn't recognize the sensors I had in my 2013...so out with the old and in with the new

What is the cost of the new style ones at the dealer? I have a set of summers I need them for and am thinking might be a good use of the $500 cash from VW on my TDI. Thanks

I read a reference to cold weather affecting the TPMS. True? Mine shows low pressure in cold weather. Odd thing is that when I checked with gauge, they were low. Can temperature lower pressure?
Pressure is directly proportional to temperature, using Absolute Zero -273C as the base - so a drop from +27C to 0C will result in a 10% drop in pressure.

If you live in a climate with wide seasonal temperature variations, the cold tyre pressures need regular resetting.

Tire pressure will change about one pound for each ten degrees of temp change. That's up and down. If your tires were 40 lbs at 70 they will be 35 at 20 degrees.

Do the sensors just die and then you get the "--" or low pressure warning or do you get the warning as the battery in the sensor dies?

I have one rear wheel giving a low tire pressure warning. I filled with air above the set limit and the pressure did change per the MFI indicating that the sensor is working, but the lower pressure warning will not go away.
