Attaching a clause to the money would come a cross as what it is a "buy off". A media mistake by VW. I bet it will be free money
I agree, likely a move to try and drive traffic into VW showrooms as well...I'm sure they are not the busyest of places lately. New business is more likely from existing clients.

Ditto. This is why I believe when the dusts settles, VW is going to be aggressive. Makes the some of the deals in October look pricey.

My salesman told me he did not even have 10 people in for cars suvs on wednesday. I have been in there alot lately never saw a prospective buyer.

It's very sad. Tell them I am ready to buy! :)

Will I be eligible for any remedies VW offers since I did not buy new from VW?

I purchase my 2014 Treg pre-owned from an Audi dealership. I have been to the VW dealership for scheduled service twice.

I now have an insane lease deal pending at over 11k off MSRP for a 16 TDI Lux with DA. Dealer (reputable) claims they can still technically sell it for now. The struggle is real.

edit: I should add they will cover all scheduled maintenance through 40k to sweeten the deal.
Can you provide more details? I'm interested in leasing one right now. I've got a Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel right now but I've always liked VWs.

"Um...I'm here for my gift cards. Can you get me a cup of coffee while I read the fine print? I'll skip the showroom tour. If I wanted something new that runs on gas, this would be the last place I'd shop. Sorry. Thanks."

Really interesting on the tire pressure at 3.5 bar.
That is what my 2015 was delivered at (50.7 psi) on all 4 wheels and I had to take it back twice for adjustments to get the tire pressures at the recommended 33 and 39 psi.
Fascinating and thanks NickyT for sharing. The article references tire pressure manipulation from 2013 to Spring 2016. Maybe this is unrelated, but my 2012 came with all 4 tires set at 46 or so psi despite lower recommended pressures on the door sill -- couldn't understand why. My just-acquired 2016 came with the tires at the recommended 33/39 psi. Perhaps the EPA investigation which commenced in 2014 was rattling cages in Wolfsburg well before September 2016? #-o

Anyone else that picked up new MY 2012 to 2015 Touaregs with abnormally high tire pressures out of the gate?

I guaranty you all from extensive personal experience that tire pressure is the very first thing you should check after buying a new car because 96.7% of the time it will be significantly wrong. :)

Followed by incorrect engine oil level 43.9% of the time. ;)

Ok I made up the percentages but seriously, those 2 things are rarely dead-on correct at delivery.

True, but the question is whether tire pressure is way off, as in way, way up, to support the notion cited in the article that tire pressures intentionally were being set high.

The dealer is the final point of quality control & quality assurance. It's their responsibility to check & correct things like tire pressure and fluid levels.

I recall reading somewhere that brand new cars are shipped from the factory with the tires over-inflated. Maybe so they don't develop flat spots in transit?

This is correct on both counts.

Yup, not a big thing, pressures set high for shipping not uncommon however proper PDI should have this in the correct settings

Mine were 46 PSI all around and asked them to lower to the proper psi 10 days later when I went in to do the trailer wiring on the hitch but they never did it. I lowered the pressure myself but I keep them 3 psi more due to the recommendations for the SWS which I don't have.

When I take my Treg into the dealer for service they rotate the tires, but fail to adjust the front and rear pressures after this. I always just take care of it when I get home. So I wouldn't be so sure there is anything going on with the tires other than lazy techs. Also now that my maintenance is no longer "free" it won't be going back to the dealer.
