I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a tune for my 2010 V6 TDI. I am currently leaning towards Malone Stage 2. I do not want to pull my ECU and ship it to a tuner, so the Flashzilla is attractive. For me the following are important:
  • engine and transmission longevity
  • increased responsiveness
  • more power
  • easy driveability
  • equal or better mpg
  • flash without removing ECU

Any recommendations? I'm in Winnipeg, Canada.

I'm thinking of leaving the DPF but adding a new muffler in the near future. I need more growl and turbo whistle.

Did you physically remove the DPF (gut or pipe)? Or just disable it?

Don't waste your money on a new muffler. There won't be much change in exhaust sound with the DPF intact.

I'm worried about black smoke after removing the DPFs. Am I worried for nothing? That's the only thing holding me back.

Under normal driving, there will be no smoke at all. Under WOT, there will be some smoke, not black smoke but smoke non the less.

Have you read this thread?

Plus, Newegg says he's gonna start a new one when his DPF delete and tune is done with dyno results.

My posts about exhaust tone are near the last few pages.......and I'm the only to post about it.......I take that as if anyone else is having any kind of color to their exhaust it must not be too noticeable.

Not sure why everyone thinks the atmosphere is their own personal air to pollute so they can gain 3hp or save some maintenance costs on their $60K vehicle or whatever other silly reason comes to mind.... DPF is there for a reason, it should be left in place.

I mean seriously, is this the Honda Civic forum now?

FWIW the dpf being out will let soot travel downstream, likely clogging up your cat converters and your adblue system. Both significantly more costly than a dpf canister.

You'll get the same power gains by getting a tune and by leaving the emissions stuff in place. happy driver + a happy planet

I had the Malone Stage 2 put in my V6TDI a couple of weeks ago, and love it. I left the DPF in.

So much more power over the entire RPM band. I highly recommend it!

Were you able to have them delete the Adblue communication? This is the route would like to go, Stage 2, emissions mostly intact.

just starting having Adblue error codes that won't clear.

008283 - Reductant Tank Temperature Sensor
P205B - 000 - Implausible Signal

I would like a stage 2 that ignores the Adblue BS..

Pretty sure they can do that. Before my tune was done they had to program the ecu that add blue was full. Then the tune shuts it off. Problem solved.

I did not delete the Adbule communication, and I am not sure if they can do that??

Even without the DPF, these common rail TDI's are cleaner than the previous generation TDI's. My 2012 Golf TDI has spent its entire life city driving and when it started throwing lots of codes relating to DPF and EGR, the dealer wanted over $3,000 to fix it. I decided to remove the DPF and EGR and replace it with a aftermarket down/midpipe at the cost of $600. I already had a stage 2 tune and the power increase above 4,000 RPM was quite noticeable after the delete.

I would have left the DPF and EGR intact if it weren't for all the problems I was having with the emissions stuff on my car. BTW, no adblue system on pre-2015 Golf.
