Ditto all of the above plus the following for North America:
- V8 TDI
- Air suspension
- 4xmotion
I would be the first in line to order one! :)

In North America they should ditch the current Sport (without Technology) and ditch the Lux.

New lineup:

Sport w/Technology is the entry level model

Executive with all current 2015 packages is the middle choice

Limited Edition Touareg X with 4XMotion, air, and every available ROW option is the new top of the line, and priced accordingly.

With V-8 TDI or V-10 or a V-12....whatever it takes. It should be available as options as these engines are available in other parts of the world. What's the harm in offering them in NA? Obviously there are emission concerns in some areas ( California) and some tax issues that may make the V-10 or V-12 not viable....but the V-8 TDI? What the hell is wrong with that? And why not the 4 X motion with air as an option?

My Local dealer said they are bringing the V12 TDi Q7 back later in the year.

I want one of those!

Include a built in brake controller with hitch and wiring. Why make things so difficult when you have class-leading towing capability?

Excellent suggestion! I would also add a T mode to the transmission (as a button) that would have towing behaviors for downshifting and slightly higher engine speeds.

I’ve heard from Audi Service Advisor at my dealership that Audi plans to compete in a large SUV segment (like Cadillac Escalade, etc.) and is coming up with a much bigger vehicle than they ever build before. Is this possible that this new vehicle will be the one with V12 TDI in it? I am not following Audi news much, but I’ve seeing new Q7 pictures posted on the CT some time ago and this thing looks very crossover-ish and definitely disproportionally too small to have V12 TDI.

I have only two VW Touareg engineering suggestions:
– to have rear gate glass openable without a need to open the gate
– to have a console dock station for tablet PC or iPad in place of Infotainment system so the thing will be software-driven environment instead of hard-coded brick

I like everything else in the VW Touareg, but not everything is available in the USA. If the VW of A’s Sales Dept. will add a couple of more trims to 4 currently available to cover wider range of engine/suspension options (not so much looks) that will be great. Also, having more flexibility in choice of options for each of trims will be really great. For an instance, - ability to order top-loaded vehicle, but without panoramic sun-roof or a lowest trim vehicle, but equipped with Dynaudio system…

#1---Stop over thinking their technology. There is zero reason a Touareg or any car should have such complicated technology! I'm not sure we can get a Remote Start. If so why so hard? Also adding anything like Blue Tooth is near impossible. Take a lesson from Ford Sync.
#2---They could spend less on Advertising by simply building a better vehicle. It's not house many new customers you get, rather how many old one's you keep! Kessy, Center Support Bearing, ELectrical Gremlins, Steering Wheel Shake etc. List is too long!

There was so much hype when the first Treg's came to the states in 2004. Sales were strong. Evrybody was so optimistic. The ONLY thing that hurt sales was VW's quality.

Agree. VW tried to make an SUV to compete with Mercedes. All they proved was that they can't. And the dealers haven't got the foggiest idea about how to treat a customer they presumably want to return. [even Mercedes can't compete with Mercedes - the number of problems/issues with their diesel GL/ML is embarrassing but their service departments at least have some class.]

Here's another first-world Touareg annoyance that's easily fixed I have both the VW fiber cargo floor "Car-Go" mat and the molded plastic mat with Touareg logo. Usually I leave the fiber mat on top but I can flip them around if there's a chance of a liquid spill or something. Awesome so far.

But both mats slip toward the rear very easily. This has happened to me multiple times while loading cargo into the back. If the mats slide back at all, they prevent the rear hatch from closing. It's really annoying when you have 200 pounds of crap loaded and the mats slide out and you can't close the hatch. And if that happens it throws a rear hatch fault code.

Easy fix: Velcro strips to hold the mats in place. Since I added the Velcro I've had no issue with the mats creeping toward the back and interfering with the hatch closing. Cost to me: About $1. Cost to VW: Maybe 25 cents?

You can remove the ashtray. Power source is a keeper, though.

Thought I'd jump in here and revive an old thread.
Delete my ashtray and cigarette lighter on my '12 TDI.
An ashtray?! What year is it?
Is this a European thing?
I'd rather have an empty space there for my VW coupons:)
Most ashtrays are removeable although one or two pompous brands make a "smoking pack" a chargeable option.

I can't speak for other Europeans but I have no trouble removing the lighter element and just use the socket as a 12v power supply - I don't bother removing the ashtray as I keep my car tidy, everything in it's place!

The resulting storage pocket, once you have removed the front ashtray insert (as directed in the manual) is clean, open and well finished, for small storage, and as an added bonus, has a 12vdc receptacle. You think they didn't think of that when they designed it?

Manual transmission option.
duel range transfer case.
get rid of the 8 speed transmission and upgrade the truck to use a twin clutch DSG unit instead for the auto option. If I can't have a manual transmission, then at least the DSG unit would be a good substitute.

get rid of the panoramic sunroof or at least offer an option for the smaller sunroof found on earlier models.

Oh yeah, last but not least, bring back the air suspension!!!

No! Not a DSG, not at any price.

If you want a "truck" get an Amarok.

I LOVE the DSG in my MKV GTI! Nothing beats it! That being said, I would not want that in an offroad SUV. On that note, bring back 4xmotion i.e. REAL 4 wheel drive!

Also, x2 on the air suspension.

I purposely sought out an 08 V8 with air suspension, 4zone climate, nav, teak interior and dynaudio; new to me and couldn't be happier. Until I can have all that in a new one, the 08 will be the best year of the touareg in my book.

I do feel a bit for you guys - you don't get the same options as the UK (I'm not sure we get everything they can get in Germany anyway) - we get a choice of 4xMotion on the Escape model or 4Motion on the SE & R-Line - air suspension is an option on all.

Given that the Touareg is very capable on 4Motion, with the right tyres, I decided I didn't need 4xMotion - but I wanted air suspension so added it to the order, along with a stack of other options.

So blame the VWoA marketeers, not the VW engineers!

I think the only thing missing from the current model year is a 4x version that would include the hardcore drivetrain and would come with air suspension. Land Rover offers their 4x as a $1500 option over here so it's not like it's the holy grail.

LR has an obsession with making all it's models fully off-road capable, bad for the image otherwise (and they've got Jaguar for limited off-roader capability) - but then there's no LR equivalent in the whole of the VW Group.

Fully agree though even LR realized that the lighter non dual range drive train is what the bulk of their clients in NAR buy. Aside from one of the upper spec Cayennes, there is no other SUV offering with air suspension and a proper off-road drivetrain, sure would be nice if the Touareg filled this void.

Maybe the new volume models will allow for some of these niche options to sneak in.
