Winter Fronts

Hi, for people who live in Northern climates, have you installed a winter front?

If so, what have you used?

On my '04 Jetta, I made panels out of an old "crazy carpet" and slipped them down between the grill and the front bra. I would use one or both depending on ambient temperature.

Ft Mac is quite a bit colder than ottawa, but I haven't used a winter front on any of the Touaregs (or the other vehicles) I've owned.

UPDATE:

Since the grills are not easily removed, I made a fairly simple panel to cover the lower grill, securing it with velcro.

Next will be panels to close off the upper grill.

Eventhough most of you may not live as far North as I, anytime you can get a TDI up quicker to operating temp and maintain it, the better for the engine, you, and the environment.

You further up than 66 North?

On the CFO's V6 I installed an oil pan heater pad, haven't on my V8. Did have a cardboard radiator block on my Durango after it cracked (together with the tranny lines) in 08 when temps hit -58F, but haven't thought about doing that on the Tregs as VW guarantees their vehicles sans plug ins to -50F.

You realize there is a Webasto on that vehical and that is not really necessary? I had heat in my TDI about a mile or two from my house and if you don't get into the pedal right away, it warms up rather quickly.

My V10s got a webasto, but I didn't think the V6 TDIs had one? I assumed they had aux electric heat (like my 4 cyl Jetta TDI).

You know, I never got a full confirmation on what the V6 TDI has, but someone who was being an idiot toward me once claim they do have a Webasto. I don't have anyway of confirming that since nothing is in the manual about it either way. I know mine does not take long to get heat in it at all when it is cold.

I know my V10 has a webasto decal on the drivers door jamb as well as a "turn off webasto" warning sticker on the fuel door (mind you, its impossible to manually turn the webasto on or off). In winter you can see the exhaust plume from the webasto buring, as well as hear it (sounds a bit like a propane furnace on a travel trailer).

The Jetta TDI has a 100amp fuse for the heating elements, its not very often that you see a 100amp fuse in a vehicle fuse box so maybe that's a telltale sign?
