Some wind noise is generated by the mirrors on the early vehicles...there was a design change to reduce this. If its coming from the a pillar area look to see if your mirrors have a little spoiler on the bottom of them.

Here are pictures of the mirror with no spoiler (black mirror), and with the spoiler (blue mirror). The black plastic piece at the bottom of the blue mirror is what I'm referring to.

You'd think that those "triple seals" would do the job. There shouldn't be any open gaps with rubber seal missing anywhere around your doors gaps period. I guess the tape approach would serve to see if there are any areas where the rubber sealing ain't making full contact for some reason or other.

Do what pottsyuk said, but try it also around the window glass edge where it meets with the door. I had the EXACT same problem on the Passat AFTER they replaced the door latch mechanism. It turned out, that the mechanic did not align the window glass properly on its tracks or something like that, even though it still managed to go up and down. The window never made full contact with the "felt" material when in full close position, and air would seep by. Barely enough to feel it, but enough to hear it. I brought it back in, they realigned the window glass, and all was good afterwards.

Hope 1/10 chance that is your problem.
