Speaking of grill swaps, there was a write up on how to remove the grill starting with placing your two index fingers between the VW logo and pulling. Is that still the same for the T2s? Reason I ask is I can't get my fingers into there... No, I don't want to swap out the grill just add some off road lights on the lower facia and it would make it easy to cut out the plastic honeycomb and make a bracket for them

I wanted to put some lights (sort of resemble police lights here but I would never try to give one that impression while trying to work my way through this traffic of a city of 10 to 3 million people) behind my grill so I watched VW Indonesia do it on my T2. The immediatley started by popping the hood unscrewing the screws and popped the entire front end above the bumper off in 1 piece. Seemd prety easy but it took 2 guys.

 

While I am not 100% sure it looks like the T1 & T2 grills are not the same. I found a number of pics and compared. The T1 grill insert has a full frame as where the T2 does not.

 

What I'm after is whether that one screw is still there on the T2 as I can't see it. If not there are like 4 or 5 screws on the top that hold it in.

Correct, the T1 & T2 girlles are different. I attempted to change the girlle and even ss oem grille strips on a 2008 Touareg with no luck.

 

So did ya figure out how to remove the grill? Is it just those 5 screws on top that hold it via a snap in?

It seems like it was more then just the 5 screws, I worked on it for about 2 hours with no luck in removing the T2 grille. Very frustrating, plus I had to return the V10 chrome girlle, and SS OEM chrome girlle strips on my second attempt to add some bling to the Touareg

1) You have a T2 and the grill insert is not removable?
2) Were you told the v10 (T1) grill would work?
3) Did the SS trim strips work out and do have any pics?

Is there anything pointing to a hidden screw behind the VW emblem which may have caused you to be unable to remove it?

Sure, let me clarify.
I have a 2008 T2 and I was told the V10 (T1) grille would fit, however much to my dismay and after 2 hours of staring at a stock grille, I realized the V10 will NOT fit a 2008 or 2009 Touareg. After returning the grille, I opted to purchase the SS OE grille strips, and the same scenario occurred.

Both item did not fit, sorry no pics. Hope this helps?

I can't recall off hand, sorry. However, there are multiple DIY instruction online for the V10 grille installation.

 

It's the 08 model I'm interested in. If you weren't able to take the grill off it could be because of that screw behind the emblem....

It had nothing to do with the screw behind the VW emblem (if any), the V10 (T1) grille is completely different then the 2008 (T2) grille. You can even hold the grille up and compare the two as it pretty evident the fit will not work.

 

I guess I can ask the question differently: Is there a screw behind the emblem on the T2s???

There is no screw behind the emblem on the T2, only on earlier models.

 

So do you just pull the emblem off to remove the grill?

The emblem on the T2 is part of the grille, and can't be removed. I tried many attempts, with no success.
