Hi, found this forum through google.

I' ve been waiting for my ideal T2 for some time now.
But, there are very very few T2 V8's in stock in SoCal (I'm near Redondo Beach), and the one or two that are available are mostly basic options and gray.

I'm looking for a V8 black or white with navigation, but I'm not really willing to order and wait another 3 months either.

Right now I'd rather settle and get a V6, cheaper, and my wife won't bug me as much about the terrible fuel consumption of the V8 ; )

- The dealers I talk to don't seem to know what is in the pipeline to be shipped, so I'm wondering if any readers know when more V8's will be coming to SoCal?

- We just bought a 2007 Audi A6 with navigation, and I really love the MMI and navigation system. Is the navigation system in the T2 anything like that of the Audi A6?

- Has anybody noticed that the T2 brochure you can download from the VW website is corrupted? I reported the problem to VW support more than a month ago, and they said they will notify the web team. I downloaded it again today and it is still the same corrupted PDF. Notice how the first page is corrupt, and as you browse to other pages they are blank, and that printing fails with an error. I tested on different, Vista and XP, with Adobe Reader 8.1 and Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1, same problem. How can I trust a car manufacturer if their even literature is buggy ; )
Here is the link if you want to try: http://www.vw.com/global/brochure/makezip.php?files=touareg

V6 now or V8 later or V6 now or V8 later, tough choice, I'll let you know what I decide (and I'll post pics).

Regards
P.

P.s. Forum smilies seem to be broken.

The bad news is... the difference in mileage between the V6 & V8 is only about 1mpg.

Perception is everything.

Have you driven both the V8 & the V6?..the new V6 is really good and unless you're a power junkie you may not need the significant extra expense of the V8 and it'll let you spend on more features/options.

I rather have the V8 then the nav system if I had to choose.
Get a TOM TOM or something.
I can only speak for older nav systems but they suck and not to mention the expense

Dealers have access to all inventories across the nation as well as those Touaregs in the pipeline and about to be shipped. My dealer trucked my 04 from Salt Lake City. When I went to trade in late 06, we could not find any vehicle that met my specs, so I ordered an early 07 and waited the 12/13 weeks.

Sounds like you need to find a better dealer.

For some reason I did not get email notifications of the new posts after I the first email notification and reading the first reply post, i.e. I purchased my T2 before I read the dealer recommendations, I hope I did not make a mistake, but thanks for the advice.

On Friday browsing internet inventory I saw that Pacific VW in Hawthorne had a black, white, and gold V6, lux, nav, and 18" wheels (or was it 19, anyway wheel upgrade). On Sunday we headed out there with the intent to purchase, unfortunately as we walked out the dealer office to have a look at the car, the car was just sold with the new owners still walking around the car, too bad.

After seeing the different colors there was only one way to go, black.

Looking online Sunday morning I knew that New Century VW in Glendale had three black V6's, two fully loaded and one with lux and nav only. We drove out there and purchased the T2 black with lux and nav for invoice plus $750.

Drive home was great!

Next I'm looking for a way to play MP3's from USB (or iPod if no USB options) with an "integrated" system, i.e. navigate playlists and see song info on nav screen, any recommendations?

I know, pictures ; )

There are third party car-computer systems. Check StreetDeck software on an Intel-based mini PC w/Carnetix power supply - on MP3Car.com for example. It may be what you are after.

Unfortunately you would have to figure out how to get the output onto the VW Nav screen (Spockcat Video mod?) or mount your own screen. There are also DIN-style OEM car computers on the way and maybe VW will get behind one of them in future model years.
