Hi all,

My Treg is full of water under passenger and driver seats, due to a heavy rain. Dealer said the drip is clogged and that causes the leak, any one can explain why there is a drip in the Treg, why this does not happen in other cars, and if the pipe is clogged why water goes into the car instead of outside. Kindly requesting some more explanation on the dripping on the Tregs.
Thanks in advance.

Regards
Gus

Hi will try and post tsb tommorrow. Just ask your dealer about the hst.
Goozie,
What is an "hst"? I would be interested in coordinating with you to get service bulletins that are published by VW-NZ, or the NZ importer, or VW-Germany, if that is where you get them from. The technical service bulletins (TSBs) that I have listed here are from Volkswagen of America. I assume that they are created in conjunction with info from the engineers in Germany but a second source or the primary source would be helpful for everyone here.

Technical solution Transaction No.: 2009147/5
Sun roof leaks Release date: 29-Aug-2006

Problem description

Water comes out of the inside light through leaks in:

1. the windscreen,
2. the inside rear-view mirror,
3. the sun roof.

Cause

1. Leaks in the windscreen:
• The laser welding seam is not covered by the window bonder.

2. Leaks in the area of the inside rear-view mirror:
• Faulty seal in the area of the earth strap of the heated windscreen.

3. Leaks in the sun roof:
a. When working on the moulded headlining the guide pin of the moulded headlining can press the drain hose behind the fork of the mounting plate. This creates a gap between drain hose and neck, which causes a leak. The drain hose can also be so unfavourably positioned, that the water would have to flow upwards. When driving the water in the sun roof frame surges over, drips into the moulded headlining and leaves at the lowest point (inside light).
b. The seal between roof skin and stiffening frame is insufficient.

Production solution

1. Leaks in the windscreen:
• Improvements - continuing corrections after deviations are recognised.

2. Leaks in the area of the inside rear-view mirror:
• Improvements - additional seal between windscreen and earth strap the heated windscreen.

3. Leaks in the sun roof:
a. Guide pins on the moulded headlining, from week 25/ 2006.

b. Improvements - fail-proof application of bonder and change of angle in the moulded areas from 09.2005 - Chassis No.: 7L5 D 076 685.

Service solution

See also the TPL ⇒ “ 2007232” .

Because of its coating the inside of the moulded headlining neither absorbs nor permeates water. The water gathers in the moulded headlining and depending on the vehicle movements, runs towards the lowest point. The lowest point of the moulded headlining is the inside light. The water leaves on the inside light.

The fault finding must therefore be performed in stages.

First step:

• Check the bonding of the windscreen with the V.A.G 1842 or with soapy water and an air gun for leaks.

With leaks in a laser seam:

• Remove the windscreen according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .
• Prime the leaking laser seam.
• Seal off the leaking laser seam with 1K window bonder DH 009 100 03.
• Refit the windscreen according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .

Only on vehicles with heated windscreen:

• Remove the console in the moulded headlining (1) according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .
• Remove the sun visors (2) according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .

• Protect the moulded headlining in the windscreen area against getting dirty.
• Carefully pull down moulded headlining. Make sure it does not get kinked or damaged.
• Continuously seal off the area between windscreen and earth strap with 1K window bonder DH 009 100 03 (arrows).

• Refit the sun visors according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .
• Refit sun visors and console in the moulded headlining according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .

Second step:

• Check the adjustment of the sun roof and correct if necessary.
• Check the seal of the sun roof for damage or deformations.
• Open the sun roof and fill water in the drain channel - watch out for any water coming out of the drain hoses and the neck.

Third step:

To ensure that the drain hose on the moulded headlining is not pressed behind the fork, remove the forks and the guide pins on the moulded headlining. The reason is described under ⇒ “ Cause” , point ⇒ “ 3 a” .

Remove forks and guide pins as follows:

• Remove the moulded headlining according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .
• Remove the metal reinforcement (2).
• Separate the fork (1) on both sides with a suitable tool from the metal reinforcement (2) (dotted line).
• Deburr the cutting lines on the metal reinforcement (dotted line) with suitable tool.

• Remove the left and right guide pin (1) with a suitable tool from the moulded headlining.

Further procedure:

• Remove the sun roof according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .
• Seal off all gaps with 1K window bonder DH 009 100 03 (see illustration 1 and 2).

• Refit the sun roof according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .
• Refit the moulded headlining according to the ⇒ “ repair manual” .

Did you get it fixed? my 04 is doing the same thing. I cleared out the condesor drain and the problem still exist. when it rains heavily not only does the water come into the front passenger floor board it also causes the radio/nav amplifier to short and there is no volume from the stereo. once it all is dried out the radio works again but in time it will permanently damage the factory amp. when I pulled off the side panel where the fuse box is there is a drain tube and connection that comes from the roof line. i have attemted to seperate to to snake hte line but have not been sucessful yet. I am going to take a look at the sunroof and see if I can see if its the seal, drain or factory welds that is causing the problem. any suggestions before I have to rip off the head liner to see where the leak is coming from?

until a fix occurs are folks noticing better results depending on the grade and vehicle direction that the vehicle is parked on? I had water leaking in through the sunroof. The dealer adjusted the placement of the sunroof cartridge and resealed. It worked for a little while. My short term successful fix until they can fix it permanently, is to park on an incline (my driveway) with the vehicle facing up when it rains

Update, the dealer promptly sent us home because they had to order parts.
The headliner came in Wednesday, however the other sunroof parts are on backorder. I'm told it's a national backorder. Seems this sunroof leak isn't going to go away for a while.
And it's raining today and tomorrow. Oh Joy.

I was notified yesterday the moonroof parts will be in mid November and we were fortunate because the backorder is so large some people won't get theirs till January.

Took mine in about 6 months ago, the dealer had it for a week and couldn't make it leak.
Twice since then, I've had minor leaks (4 or 5 drops) and took it in while it was happening so they could see it.
It's going back in on Monday.

Water leak...

Hi all...

Looks like I just got the water leak. Our driveway is steep, so I assume its running back to here from the sunroof? Seems odd to be in that spot - not the other side, just here and dr rear footwell.. Did I read that right that the headliner has to come out? ugg. How big a job is it?

I guess I'll have to duct tape the sunroof for now ieeeeeee.

I'd clean the sunroof drains out ASAP.

And park the car the other way around too!

Is it very cold where you are? Have you used the rear wash wipe today? Was this frozen? The pipework for this washer runs through the roof and can burst above the back door if the washer jet is frozen, but the water usually emerges on the right hand side of the car when looking toward the front from the back.

Its not cold here at the moment, but we've had a lot of rain.

To clean the drains, what, open the roof and poke something down the drains? There's not a tree within some distance of us, so I doubt there is anything in there. Heck, we don't even use the sunroof. I'll check the drains tomorrow night though. Shoot, I should have done this morning.

Looks like its been a while since anyone has posted in this thread, has anyone had better results either fixing themselves or taking it into a shop?

I am having this issue as well in my 04, water gathers on the floor around the door on the passenger side, and the floor in the trunk also gets saturated during heavy rains. I though that the leak there might have been from around those windows but hearing more about the damage done to the headliner from a leaking sun roof, it's more likely as the cloth liner has dropped.

Any remember the aprox cost of fixing this, or if new TRegs have this issues? I was planning on buying a newer model and giving this one to my GF, but...

I own two 04 V8's and one had water leaking from the drain under the charcoal cabin filter, the drain fills with debre, clogs and water runs onto floor. another problem I had was with the drain on the passenger side engine compartment under the ECU, this will cause water to leak into cabin as well as all kind of electrical faults with ABS, drive train, etc...

I even had a leaking hose from the window washers ot the rear window, the hose connector had separated and every-time you use your washer fluid the water would pump and leak on the passenger side pillar down onto the fuse compartment as well as down the right side to the floor.

Another notorious problem is with the sunroof drains that also clog and can be cleared with a snake or small tube pressurized with water to clear out junk that builds up and clogs drains.

As far as the rear goes, if you have had your rear window struts replaced, the access covers have sealant to prevent water from leaking inside the vehicle, and the drain is out the back of the rear hatch, if the seal is worn or smashed down then it can leak water into the rear, but more and likely the covers under the headliner.

contributing my thread on my own leak experience.

http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f43/2010-roof-leak-near-map-lights-139153.html

The TL;DR is: Went in a few times for leaks around map lights, also found water in driver's side floor board coming from parking brake assembly.

Dealer eventually found moonroof was not properly sealed at a corner and it required a VW approved body shop to repair the seal/install job (which supposedly included a small weld).

Since doing this repair the car has been bone-dry on the inside.
