I was down in Richmond, VA over the Thanksgiving weekend (some 1400 miles from home). While I was down there I went to turn the Treg on after have lunch and it said "Engine Fault workshop/code" (something like that). So I turned it off and then back on. The check engine light was still on, but no warning message this time, and stayed on until I got to the local dealer.
Lucky for me, there was a VW dealer close by. So that is where I headed.
they hooked it up and ran a diagnostics test and it came back with the V157 code on the right bank (intake manifold flap, $550 part). They said that it was a sporadic code and it only happened the one time. Also that the light had turned off when they brought it back into the shop.
The mechanic said that I was perfectly fine to drive the 1400 miles back home and that I shouldn't have any issues (he was right, no more warning light or engine fault code warnings).
So my questions are:
- Is there any advice for what could have caused it to throw the code?
- Do I need to replace the entire intake manifold?
- How soon do I need to do it?
I did not see or feel any power loss or mileage drop. I still got 21.5mpg average over the course of the 1400 mile trip home. Same as what I got on the way down there.
I tried to look up some info on here, but didn't really find much for answers. I read a few things on here that suggested I may just need to clean the intakes?? But again I am not positive about this.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I am hoping that perhaps the engine/computer had a "brain fart" of sorts and figure itself out, because like I said, it only happened the one time.
