Installed mine and everything works but I get a lot of buzzing even when it's turned off. Put the stock unit back in and it's fine, any suggestions?
Is your HU still appears to have power on after the key is removed? If so, you may have a grounding issue with the new HU. It can be caused by wireless components, or even a simple poorly shielded chargers you have plugged in.

Try looking for these guys:

1. Plug your new HU back in. Unplug all your charger equipment. Power off. If buzzing continue, either HU grounding is bad, or there's a mod that has a bad ground.

2. Check your wires during your modding to may have a spliced/splitter/exposure of the wire to the metal body. My old vehicles with bad grounding, due to the aged wiring, caused this. The infamous one is the grounding of the towing wire harness. Took me a good week of digging around to find out that the ground wire was sitting on top of an insulated surface that was poorly grounded down to expose the metal surface.

3. Loose connection/connectors between HU wiring harness and the original. This happened once. Aftermarket adapter harness didn't quite connect properly between the new HU and existing wire harness through the adapter. It buzzed for a while, and drove us nuts. Couldn't figure out why. I ended up stripping the wires and solder them manually. Solved the problem immediately. It was the ground wires.

I kinda/sorta had that buzzing too. I believe it has something to do with the extra amp wires touching somewhere, causing electrical interference. I taped the unused male adapters and it went away

marshatherton, when you're ready to attempt a rooting method, use KingRoot. Even with temporary rooting and installation of SU, you'll be able to take care of bloatapps removal, or play around with the OS. Since I don't know the exact version/build of the Android, there's no way to dig for the bootloader and crack it wide open from a lock mode.

The funny things about aftermarket components using Android OS is, most of their systems come unlocked, with security completely relaxed. It's all about digging and probing using various methods to fully root the unit. Android 6.x and 7.x is a different story. The approach is a bit trickier with the security probably not fully disabled for aftermarket parts. This is one of the many questions I've sent to the manufacturer for answers.
It's running marshmallow. I'll get you a picture of the number.

Kinda dumb question here, but do you guys have external amps in your cars, which is why you get good sound right out of the box?

When I had an aftermarket HU installed the sound was was weak, to put it politely. So if I want to install another one I may have to install an amp too. I have the Delta radio 7L6035195 with DSP.

Yes, we all have the factory digital amp which is what makes this hu special.
Before this there were only bypass methods for us.

I knew if I was persistent enough, someone would find a way lol. I feel bad for the dude who rewired his entire system lol.

I just ordered one last week and installed it. I had to re-pin the connector because they had the ACC+ and B+ wires switched going to the VW harness. They refunded me $5 for the inconvenience.

I have the DVD based NAV and everything works as it should. I had a hell of a time getting all the wiring and crap to fit back there. I even used a dremel to clear out some space. The unit still isn't sitting flush in my dash and I need to get the adapter for the antenna so I am getting both VW antenna plugs. I haven't been able to get my hot-spot from my phone to work on the unit yet. I still need to spend some time adjusting the system to work how I want it to. Right now I am just using the blue tooth to play music from my phone. I haven't ran the GPS antenna yet either.

I was just about time become one of those dudes...lol
LOL I'm there myself. HU manufacturers are not responding properly because they don't have the info. The tech people are not talking to the sell group, and no information can be conveyed properly. I was about to rip the entire amp and CD changer units out as I was getting frustrated in not getting enough info to work on the upgrade.

Rewiring and ripping the vehicle's apart is part of the game when it comes upgrading an old car with new hardware. I've gone through too many of these, but still fume because there's hardly any info out there to allow modders to follow through. Talked to few of the guys I know in the car audio shops. They recommended the entire strip down of the vehicle's radio system, and upgrade to the latest tech, which would not guarantee that the tech will last into the next 5 years. Tech improves so fast that any new tech today becomes obsolete in a year or 2. Total strip down and new hardware, with labor, kicked the invoice to $2,100. Yeah...no thanks.

As for the GPS antenna, Rather than using the in-dash or on-dash receiver, my suggestion is to purchase the external aerial antenna when possible. I've done it for my VW Routan, off-roading SUVs, and a few older sedans. In-dash or on-dash GPS receiver tends to lose line-of-sight with the overhead satellites in hilly areas, notorious in the mountains, and horrible in the city. External gives you a bigger advantage, and can be a lifesaving mod. Got lost a few times in the mountains, where phone's navigation became utterly useless.

Radio-GPS antenna tends to force you to add a power line to the unit, acting as as signal booster, and stronger signal strength delivery from antenna to HU due to 6ft+ length. It's a low power requirement. The funny thing I've learned about aerial antenna with power from the engineers was, the antenna actually utilizes the entire top area of the vehicle as a receiving dish, based on the placement of the antenna. Back or front creates good signal. Central is best. I tend to place it at the rear to minimize drag. I have yet to complain about onboard GPS connection failure, compared to original antennae from the factories.

my stereo came with a GPS antenna to mount externally. Right now its just sitting in my dash waiting for me to run it outside, I used it today and it worked nicely though.

I removed everything and rewired my BMW for all modern stereo equipment, but that was easy because the car is tiny and only has 4 speakers and a head unit. I removed the troublesome factory amp and sub. Doing that to the Touareg would be one hell of an undertaking and would be mostly labor costs. I think this head unit is a nice substitute.

The question now is, can we take the existing mid end Android-based HU and hack the crap out of it, similar to the mobile devices, to take advantage of the OS and hardware. Most HUs have at least 2 USB ports in the rear, 1 USB port in the front, SD, SIM, and all the funk jazz bell and whistles.

This means we can have a 2.5in USB-powered SSD for large video/music/cam footage storages, 32GB to 64GB transportable/transferrable data, and external app expansion. All needs to be rooted first. Chance of bricking the unit is 50/50.

I've asked the manufacturers about front & rear cameras recording at one time. The hardware is optimized to perform such a task. Some Euro HUs, from what I saw on YouTube for Russian's extreme crashes, not only 2, but 4 can be recorded (2 to the front with 1 fixed and the other swivels, one above the trunk and split with the backup cam). Recorded footages will prove your innocence vs hearsay. Where I live, this is the only mean of protecting myself and family.

I've been looking to replace my headunit on my 04 TReg and I was hoping this unit would work properly.

I tried posting the ebay link but since my post count isn't past 5 I can't

I know there are older versions of Android that are compatible, but if this could work with the most recent version of Android i'll dive right into it, also are there any camera components that you would recommend? and also are there any 4G internet adapters or does the 3G work just as good?

Question for you is, is your head unit (HUH) a standard CD/DVD, or CD-DVD Navi? The measurement for the existing HU dimension is slightly different for some reason.

Can't seem to find that specific model with Android 6 for XTRON. On top of that, the XTron don't describe their dimension either.

If the unit is within these dimensional measurement:

Front facia vertical edge: 117mm
Front facia horizontal edge: 230mm
Depth (pushing the unit back into the existing HU housing): 150mm
Rear height of unit: 100mm
Rear width of unit: 178mm

If the depth is beyond 150mm, be ready to do some rear area destruction/hollowing out, since all your new connections, components, and wiring will completely overcrowd the rear area.

Another warning is, since we're all stuck in the old CANBUS versions 1.4 to 1.7, not all HUs allow us to use the steering wheel's buttons. The 7 to 11 speakers may not be functioning in full. This is why we're researching everything about the new HUs before buying, or taking a risk on buying for an upgrade.

on the ebay listing it shows the dimension as 150*179*100mm
