I'm 2/3 of my way through my 27 hour journey across the country and my EPC light came on and my throttle started surging and I can't go faster than 35mph. I know it's common that this light can come on when you have a bad break pedal switch but that's not the case my brake pedal switch is fine I do have an intermittent p0087 error. Any idea what this could be?

P0087 is low fuel rail pressure so probably a pump or regulator problem or maybe a blocked filter or just low on fuel ?

cheers

I just came on here to edit my post and say that. I unplugged the pressure sensor under the hood by the throttle body and the EPC light doesn't come on anymore but I can't get the RPMs over 3000 without bogging and my top speed on a flat road towing a 5,000 lb trailer is about 62 mph it's better than nothing hopefully I can limp it home.

Wish me luck!

Just watch and smell for leaking fuel. Had something similar happen on my 2008 V8 FSI and was drivers side HPFP that had external crack and was spraying fuel into my engine bay. Took to shop for misfire and EPC light and they found the obvious leak. Can’t remember cost.

In all fairness I also had a bad experience (seems my V8 FSI has had a few lately) where because of the pandemic and (and fuel prices perhaps??) I purchased a bad tank of gas…by bad I mean it would barely run. It threw misfire code and I took it to mechanic. They couldn’t figure it out (switched plugs, switched injectors, put scope down into engine $$$) and then finally the owner said I wonder if it could be bad fuel. They drained tank and refilled and all was well. I spent a lot of hours of labor to find that out so the point above still could be the case and honestly should be the first thing I did it figured it was something mechanical as I had been filling at this place for years. Seems people stopped buying premium in my small town and the shelf life expired or eventually got water in it (crazy wet spring here most rain on record). In the end I have no idea other than I got crap fuel…

There is a 4.2 Tdi . . .

(Albeit a few years later.)
Sadly no V8 TDI’s in America. If it’s an 08 V8, it’s a premium gas guzzler FSI, have 2 currently and have replaced 1 that the wife totaled. I get 12 miles to a gal. around town pulling a construction trailer. On the freeway road tripping I can eek out 18 or 19 mpg.

I love our gas guzzler…these fuel prices are nasty. While back I put an exhaust on ours-can’t remember if you have one or not—I might be thinking of someone else, but highly recommend something like this to all V8 gasser owners to make paying so much $$$ every fill worth it (sort of). Someday we will all be forced into windup throwaway clown cars at the rate this is going.

Perry 01 who has a 2nd home here in Eden has a muffler delete,
sadly ours still have the suitcases hanging on to the back. I try not to let them go below a quarter tank to save the fuel pumps and to trick myself into thinking if the fill up is under $100 it’s not so painful. [emoji15]
