@Landpanther unfortunately in Australia the majority of roads will be posted at 100kph (60mph) with a few major routes at 110kph so not much chance to see 80mph 😉
At least not legally😝😂

But seriously though, how serious are they on speed law enforcement?

In SA we can get away with quite a bit and our freeways have a speed limit of 120 km/h…relatively close to 80 miles per hour which translates to about 128 km/h…

If caught though, anything more than 40 km/h over the limit is straight arrest and court appearance and no spot fine…

The owner's manual wallet thing doesn't fit in the glove box. That winds me up way more than it should
Mine sits neatly on the left hand pocket/shelf in the boot on a micro fibre cloth and stays there :)

I am impressed at how effortlessly it will get up to 80 MPH,(2700-2800 RPMs, "Red Lines" at about 6500 RPM) without even breaking a sweat.. Nice,, LOL., A while back my cousin, (who drives some kind of a fancy 8 Cyl. Mercedes), sent me a picture of his dashboard showing him doing 80 MPH@ 3000 RPM, (red line at 6000).. I sent him my picture back showing the 80 mph at 2700-2800 RPM, casually mentioning. "Not bad for a 6 Cyl.. eh?"... He was impressed.. LOL
Now imagine if you had the V8 Diesel and could show him doing 80mph at 1700rpm

My V8 sits at 130km/h (81.25 mph) at 1600 rpm and 120 km/h (75 mph) at 1500 rpm.

On level road the consumption makes my 1600 Polo look bad😝. Climbing a hill and maintaining speed does change that picture a bit.

I must actually see what rpm she does at 200 km/h / 125 mph. Now of course I would never do something like that but I will ask a friend😉😂

Australian police resort to a multitude of fixed and mobile speed cameras as well as speed averaging over long distance to enforce the limits combined with number plate recognition.
odds are in the Police favour. 😟

Pretty much same here…they just don't work too often…

The small towns inland from Port Elizabeth use mobile manned cameras. On the garden route N2 from Plettenberg Bay to George ( That is on the Port Elizabeth / Cape Town route) there is a 100km stretch of road where there are HUNDREDS of cameras, permanent and manned. The speed limit is up and down like a posessed yoyo and you are very lucky indeed to travel that road without getting a fine no matter HOW careful you look out for signs.
The average speed thing also recently reached our shores and you would do well to pay attention in the last 120km of N2 into Cape Town from Port Elizabeth.

I suppose it is a matter of “you takes your chances and you pays your dues…”

But how do you drive a Touareg at 60mph all the time…I mean SERIOUSLY?😝😂

Update:
Back in post #6 I mentioned the felt in the bottom of the front door pockets moving was bothering me. So I decided to do something about it rather than just complain.
First I bought a sheet of 1/32" neoprene rubber and cut out two pieces just a bit smaller than the felt pieces.
245999

I bought some quick dry tacky glue to adhere the neoprene rubber to the back of the felt (the stiffer side).

246000

I applied the glue to the back of the felt.

246001

and applied both pieces of neoprene rubber to the felt pieces.

246002

Next I just put the pieces under something flat with a weight on it until the glue dries.
This should not only give the felt pieces more weight to them, but also the neoprene rubber should help prevent them from moving around.

Next I think I'll cut a round piece of the neoprene to be installed in the round pocket where the diff lock switch isn't (here in the USA) so when I put my Zippo in it it doesn't clang around.

Has anyone else ot there noted another Treg quirk?
Living in our caravan full time means we both drive the Touareg.
Having the seat etc adjust to the correct settings according which key is used to unlock it is excellent
BUT
Why does the Touareg remember which mobile phone last connected to it regardless of which key is used to unlock it ?

If my wife drives it on her own to the shops it connects to her mobile as it should.
The next day we hook up the van and head off after unlocking it with my key and it connects to her mobile again and continues to until I manually force it over or I drive the car without her in it.
Very annoying !

Is it not possible that the entertainment / radio / bluetooth system works independently from the vehicle security and related systems?

Maybe the later models are more fancy than my 2011 which is all I know. I will check out what mine does when both my wife and I are in the car…

On the topic of quirks…

When I wash my car the door locks and indicator lights go crazy when water runs over a door handle. The key is in my pocket at the time…

I suppose I should try this without the key being close?

I have to unlock the car and put the keys in the house while washing.. was more of an issue when at a public car wash
